MCCI's Weatherproof Feather Case Offers Wall-Mountable Protection for Outdoor Projects
Designed to protect Feather form factor devices from the elements, MCCI's case includes two cable glands and a transparent lid.
Projects built around the Feather form factor now have a new option for weatherproofing: a cleverly-designed housing from MCCI Corporation, featuring a transparent lid and dual cable glands.
"This sealed, gasketed case not only protects boards from the elements, but it includes all the required mounting hardware for boards compatible with the Adafruit Feather system, including MCCI Catena boards like the 4610, 4612, 4801 and 4470," MCCI explains of its latest design, brought to our attention by Adafruit. "The case includes a removable plexiglass base-plate, stand-offs and related hardware. The case also includes cable glands to allow entry for field wiring or power."
Constructed from impact-resistant ABS plastic and measuring 100x68x36mm (around 3.94x2.68x1.42"), the case includes two PG-7 cable glands suitable for cables between 0.118" to 0.169" in diameter without allowing for water ingress; while the company has not offered an IP rating for ingress protection, it is describing the part as fully weatherproof and suitable for outdoor use.
That weatherproofing does come at a cost, however: "The case is sealed," MCCI explains, "and therefore environmental sensors will not track the external conditions as closely as they will with a ventilated case." Those who do need high accuracy would have the option of running sensors on an external pigtail connection through one of the cable glands ā though the sensor would then be exposed to the weather.
The case is now available on the MCCI store for $29 per unit.
