nRF52805 Brings Wafer-Level, Low-Cost Bluetooth 5.2 SoC to Nordic's nRF52 Family
Optimized for inexpensive two-layer PCB designs, the nRF52805 Bluetooth 5.2 SoC measures just 2.48 x 2.46mm.
Nordic Semiconductor has just announced the seventh member of their nRF52 Series: the nRF52805! Nordic acolytes will immediately recognize this as the smallest number in the nRF52 series, and with good reason: the wafer-level SoC measures just 2.48 x 2.46mm! Despite its small size, the SoC features BLE data rates of 2 Mbps. Optimized for inexpensive two-layer PCB designs, the new package is intended for applications such as beacons, toys, and disposable medical products.
The nRF52805 features an Arm Cortex-M4 32-bit processor running at 64 MHz, with 192 KB Flash and 24 KB RAM. It features 10 GPIOs and supports I2C, SPI, UART, and TWI. A 9.5 x 8.8mm reference layout is available, with all 10 GPIOs broken out, and only 10 external passive components required for full functionality.
Key features:
- 64 MHz Cortex-M4
- 192 KB Flash, 24 KB RAM
- 2.4 GHz transceiver
- 2 Mbps, 1 Mbps data rates
- Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)
- 128-bit AES HW encryption
- UART, SPI, TWI, I2C
- 12-bit ADC
- Temperature sensor
- 2x RTC
The nRF52805 currently supports the SoftDevice S112 peripheral-only Bluetooth Low Energy protocol stack, with S113 (adding LE Data Packet Length Extension and L2CAP connection-oriented channels) support planned. The popular nRF52 DK can be used to emulate the nRF52805 during development. The nRF52805 Bluetooth 5.2 SoC is available today.
