PragmatIC, Ynvisible Partner on Flexible, Low-Power Displays for the Internet of Everything
The commercial partnership will see PragmatIC building bendy display controllers to go with Ynvisible's printable displays.
Flexible electronics specialist PragmatIC has announced a deal with Internet of Things (IoT) firm Ynvisible Interactive that will see a range of unexpected surfaces being turned into displays — like bottle caps.
"By integrating flexible integrated circuits we can now dramatically enhance the product solutions we offer our customers," says Ynvisible chief executive Michael Robinson of the partnership. "We look forward to working with PragmatIC to deliver a range of flexible display modules that can offer easy integration with enhanced functionality across our verticals of supply chain, play and packaging and medical devices."
"Ynvisible’s electrochromic display technology is a great match for our thin, flexible chips," adds Scott White, PragmatIC chief executive. "Alongside our FlexIC Foundry, this accelerates our vision of opening up exciting new opportunities beyond RFID, such as smart medical devices and visually interactive packaging."
PragmatIC's FlexIC technology turns what would normally be rigid electronic components flexible, as so perfectly demonstrated late last month when the company showed off a modern implementation of the classic MOS 6502 microprocessor that could can bend and flex in your hand.
Ynvisible, for its part, offers a flexible electrochromic display that can be printed onto a variety of surfaces — and which is now being paired with a driver IC from PragmatIC to create a fully-flexible and conformable display module which, the companies hope, could find a use for everything from displaying sensor status to making consumer goods like drinks bottles interactive.
Neither company, however, has suggested when the first combined products will be reaching the market
