Renesas RRH47000 Evaluation Kit Makes High-Accuracy Carbon Dioxide Monitoring a Cinch
With a ±75 parts per million (ppm) accuracy and automatic baseline correction, the RRH47000 sniffs out CO₂ wherever it's found.
Renesas has launched an evaluation kit that puts its RRH47000 single-channel non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) carbon dioxide sensor on a carrier board for ease of experimentation — delivering high-accuracy CO₂ measurements along with temperature and relative humidity over USB, USART, and I2C connections.
"The RRH47000-EVK simplifies the evaluation process for the RRH47000 non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) CO₂ module," the company explains of its evaluation kit. "This single-channel NDIR CO₂ module features a highly accurate sensor for CO₂ measurement, along with a world-class humidity and temperature sensor, all in a compact package."
The RRH47000 CO₂ sensor, brought to our attention by CNX Software, delivers a claimed ±75 parts per million (ppm) accuracy across a 0-5,000 ppm range with an 80s response time. That accuracy does drift, the company admits, at a rate of around three ppm per day — but can be restored with regular baseline correction, which occurs automatically or can be manually set through exposure to an atmosphere with a known concentration of carbon dioxide.
In addition to the CO₂ sensor, the module includes a temperature sensor good to ±0.5°C accuracy and 0.01°C resolution across a -40°C to 125°C (-40°F to 257°F) range and relative humidity measurements accurate to ±3.5% relative humidity (RH) across a 20% to 80% RH range — with the overall measurement range extending all the way from 0% to 100% RH, with reduced accuracy. These operate more rapidly than the CO₂ sensor, registering changes in around two and four seconds respectively.
