Reveni Labs Light Meter for Film Cameras
Add metering to any camera with this sensor-equipped, 3D-printed device.
In the age of digital cameras and smartphones, snapping a a picture is no big deal. You could take hundreds in a day, and even some video if you so desire without thinking much about it, then go through later and delete whatever you don’t want.
If you’re shooting with film, however, your number of shots is inherently limited, and when using older cameras you don’t have the same kind of automatic assist functions that are now available. To help make every frame count, inventor and film camera aficionado Matt Bechberger has developed the minuscule Reveni Labs Light Meter that slides onto a camera's hot shoe.
The little, 3D-printed device features a sensor that measures light levels in front of the camera when activated. Results are then displayed on the screen, showing either a calculated shutter speed or required aperture depending on the mode. Film ISO is programmed in and taken into account as well. With this tool at your disposal, you’ll be able to take pictures in this beautiful format with fewer surprises.
It conveniently measures less than an inch in all dimensions, and weighs in at only 8 grams — making it easy to have with you when needed. Power is provided by an LR44 battery, which can take thousands of readings. If that sounds interesting, you can find more information here on Kickstarter, or even get one yourself for around $94!
