RingConn Launches Its Second-Generation Smart Ring Wearable — the RingConn Gen 2

A sensible name for a major upgrade, which brings with it "AI" sleep apnea tracking, lower weight, and longer battery life.

Wearables specialist RingConn has launched a crowdfunding campaign for its second-generation smart ring — called, logically enough, the RingConn Gen 2, and boasting a claimed 12-day battery life.

"The previous generation, RingConn Gen 1, was a super successful product, selling in over 50+ countries worldwide," the company boasts of its pedigree. "It also received prestigious awards like the 2024 iF Design Award and Good Design Award. RingConn is well-certified, backed by numerous scientific papers and studies. With this track record, we're excited to introduce the next evolution, RingConn Gen 2, to our loyal community."

The RingConn Gen 2 is, unsurprisingly, another smart ring — though one that, the company promises, is a considerable upgrade over its first-generation predecessor. Boasting a slimmer and lighter design, at 2mm (around 0.08") thickness, 6.8mm (around 0.27") width, and 2g (around 0.07oz) in weight, the new ring nevertheless offers what the company says is a 10-12 day battery life — though this is based on the largest ring size.

The claimed battery life is also measured with one of its key new features disabled: sleep apnea tracking, which uses unspecified "advanced AI [artificial intelligence]" to track breathing and respiration overnight and identify risk events with a claimed 90.7 percent accuracy — though, RingConn is quick to point out, the ring is not classed as a medical device and cannot deliver a diagnosis.

The IP68-rated waterproof wearable also comes with photoplethysmogram (PPG) heart rate and blood oxygen saturation sensors, temperature sensors, and accelerometers for motion tracking, and is designed for continuous wearing for health and exercise monitoring. For users interested in fitness tracking, RingConn says it can seamlessly track range of outdoor and indoor activities including running, walking, and cycling, and connects to third-party apps including Apple Health and Google Health Connect.

The RingConn Gen 2 is now funding on Kickstarter, with early-bird backers able to order a ring and charging case for $209 — a claimed 30 percent discount on the planned retail price. Hardware is expected to ship this September, the company has confirmed.
