SB Components' Round Display Range Gets a Touch-Sensitive Raspberry Pi HAT Entry
Designed as a successor to the RoundyPi and RoundyFi, this Raspberry Pi HAT includes a touch-sensitive screen and a five-way joystick.
SB Components is back with another compact, full-color circular display — and this time it's one you're invited to touch as much as you like: the 1.28" Round LCD HAT for Raspberry Pi.
Designed for a range of use-cases — including weather displays, security systems, home automation, and multimedia projects — SB Components 1.28" Round LD Hat offers an eye-catching circular display on a board, which mounts to the top of a Raspberry Pi or compatible via the 40-pin general-purpose input/output (GPIO) header.
The display's specifications are identical to SB Components' earlier RoundyPi and RoundyFi boards, designed by Om Singh: a 1.28" diameter, 240×240 resolution that is cropped to make the finished round image, and 65,000 colors — though this time around it can be operated in 4,000 and 262,000 color modes too.
Its primary differences: The display is no longer a stand-alone device and instead is fitted to a Hardware Attached on Top (HAT) accessory for the Raspberry Pi and compatible single-board computers; there's a capacitive touch function added, offering single- and two-point touch detection at a claimed 2.5mA power draw and 20ms response time; and there's a small five-way joystick mounted just below the screen, to provide an additional input.
The new display is currently available to back on Kickstarter, with physical rewards starting at £35 for early bird backers — a claimed 27 percent discount off the board's eventual retail price. Shipping is scheduled to begin in September this year, SB Components has confirmed.
