Seeed Studio's IoT Button Is a Simple Wi-Fi, Zigbee One-Button Input Device for Home Assistant
Whether you're connecting over Zigbee or Wi-Fi, the IoT Button can handle it — and includes a rechargeable battery for easy installation.
Seeed Studio has launched an Espressif ESP32-C6-powered gadget designed to add the simplest of integrations into your smart home infrastructure: the IoT Button.
"Remember the days when controlling your smart home meant fumbling through your phone, navigating multiple apps, or shouting commands across the house? While these methods have their place, they often fall short in everyday scenarios," says Seeed's Lily Li in support of the company's launch. "Today, we're excited to introduce the Seeed Studio IoT Button – a game-changing smart switch that’s about to transform how you interact with your Home Assistant-based smart home."
Based on Espressif's ESP32-C6 microcontroller — giving it single-band 2.4GHz Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5 Low Energy (BLE), and Thread- and Zigbee-compatible IEEE 802.15.4 radio connectivity, all powered by a pair of high- and low-performance RISC-V processors running at up to 160MHz and 20MHz respectively — the IoT Button is, as the name implies, a push-button switch, designed for the Internet of Things. There's no screen, no clever sensors, just one single button — though one which supports single-, double-, and long-press interactions out of the box, with customizable triggers for those who need more.
The communication isn't entirely one-way: there's an RGB LED that can be used to indicate the status of a triggered event, as well as single-color LEDs to indicate Wi-Fi connectivity and the charging of the internal 18650 lithium-ion battery using the button's single USB Type-C connector. On the firmware front, the device comes with ESPHome pre-loaded for immediate connection to Home Assistant over Wi-Fi — or if you have a Zigbee hub, you can use that instead.
The IoT Button is now available on the Seeed Studio store, priced at $9.90 including mounting bracket.
