While we can’t always be at home to “greet” friends, salespeople, or even intruders, if you’re Matthew Gaber (aka “MerlotMachina”), you simply automate the process. His project uses a PIR sensor to detect those who “rudely” approach his dwelling, then soaks them with an automated water gun.

Water flow is handled by a 12V pump meant for car windshields, and the gun moved in several directions using a pan/tilt servo setup to ensure that the visitor (victim?) gets wet.

An ESPino controls the triggering of the pump via a transistor, as well as the pan/tilt movement of the gun. This also signals an ESP8266 ESP-12F UNO board and an ArduCAM Mini shield, which is used to save images of the incident to an SD card.

The camera can even stream video, allowing you to activate and aim the device anywhere in the world through an optional iPhone app. If you you want to create a “Super Squirter” of your own, more details of the build can be found here.
