Just because everything around us is getting smarter, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re becoming simpler, too. With this in mind, the Wonder Tech Lab team created Switch Bot — a small, app-controlled device that mechanically turns all your switches and buttons on/off from anywhere.
Switch Bot works wirelessly over both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Switch Link is the Bluetooth access point which connects the bots to the Internet via Wi-Fi. If you cannot hook up to Wi-Fi, Switch Bot can be managed over Bluetooth as well. The Bluetooth Mesh Network connects each bot to one another, enabling you to command your bots out of Bluetooth range.
To get started, you first download the app on your iOS or Android phone. Then, you attach Switch Bot to any appliance or light switch using 3M mounting tape. From there, you configure your Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Last but not least, you can set preferences and times for your home and gadgets. (If you feel like doing things the old-fashioned way, Switch Bot resides at the side of a switch so you can still turn your switch manually as before.)
Switch Bot will save you time. You’ll never have to worry about running home to turn the washing machine or dryer off, open the door for your children after school, or make your coffee in the morning. What’s better than having one less thing to do, being able to hit that snooze button on your alarm to get a few extra winks of sleep?
The team will be releasing APIs to allow Makers and developers to integrate Switch Bot to your own home automation system. It’s even friendly to Ardunio, Raspberry Pi and OpenWRT, and supports IFTTT.
