If you’re the Raspberry Pi team, how do you celebrate your fifth birthday? You release a brand spanking new Raspberry Pi Zero with wireless LAN and Bluetooth, that’s how.
While the original Pi Zero retailed at $5, the latest variant (called Pi Zero W) is slightly more expensive at $10 — but you’ll no longer need to buy a wireless adapter!
The Pi Zero W boasts the same specs as its predecessor (1GHz single-core Broadcom BCM2835 CPU, 512MB of RAM, 40-pin header) but integrates more functionality into the existing design, including both 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 courtesy of the Cypress CYW43438 chip at its core.
But that’s not all! Our friends at Raspberry Pi have also announced a line of Zero-compatible injection molded cases. Each case comes with three interchangeable lids that provide access to different parts of the tiny device, such as the GPIO pins or the camera.
We can’t wait to get our hands on this little board, and certainly look forward to countless Pi Zero W-powered projects on Hackster. For now, you can read more on its official blog post and check out Make:’s first look below! You can even enter to win a free one!
