The Storm 2 Packs a Huge Amount of Power in a Small Form Factor
The power bank features a cyberpunk-esque enclosure and a sci-fi-style display.
With the number of mobile devices we use on a daily basis — smartphones, tablets, laptops, smartwatches, fitness trackers, and so on — it’s not uncommon to have a battery bank or two when traveling. Unfortunately, there is no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to power banks, as some are rated for different voltages and are outfitted with different ports. To overcome some of those hurdles, the Storm 2 has been designed as an EDC (EveryDay Carry) power bank with an insane amount of power storage and enough ports to charge everything from smartphones to laptops multiple times over.
The Storm 2 features a cyberpunk-esque aluminum and fireproof enclosure along with handy Star Trek-style 1.42" IPS TFT OLED display that provides a plethora of information, including battery life, charge cycles, output distribution (per battery cell), running temp, and DC voltage adjustment. The power bank sports a 32-bit Cortex-M3 microcontroller, a TI BQ40z50 coulombmeter, and a bank of Panasonic-Sanyo NCR18650GA 27,600mAh/99.36Wh Li-ion batteries.
The Storm 2 also comes equipped with a pair of USB Type-C ports (100W, 30W), 1X USB Type-A port (5V), and a single DC output (3.3 to 25.2V @ 3A). According to the company, “A dedicated 3.3-25.2V adjustable & customizable DC barrel port output meets all your specific device charging needs. STORM 2 is also the best choice when you are outdoors for running electric camp coolers, fans, shower water pumps, projectors, drones, or an electric soldering iron.” What’s more, users can charge up to three devices simultaneously if needed, regardless of their power demands.
The Storm 2 EDC Power Bank is currently being crowdfunded on Kickstarter with pledges starting at around $100/$109. Additional add-ons are sold separately, including a carrying pouch and various cables, and chargers.
