The Wicked Makers Finally Built a FNaF Ennard Animatronic!
The YouTubers are back at it again, this time with a life-size Ennard animatronic from the Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location game.
The Wicked Makers, YouTubers closing in on two million subs, specialize in building animatronics. They’re particularly fond of big, life-size animatronics and Five Nights at Freddy’s has been a major source of inspiration for them. That franchise’s entire premise revolves around creepy animatronic characters, so it is very fertile ground for Wicked Makers' Jaimie and Jay. They’ve made a whole bunch of FNaF animatronics, but there is one especially scary character that they’ve neglected until now. That’s why we’re so excited to see that the Wicked Makers finally built a life-size FNaF Ennard animatronic.
Ennard first appeared in the Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location game as the final enemy. It is a twisted amalgamation of parts from several of the other animatronics, resulting in a form like a humanoid pile of mechanical snakes with a clown head on top.
Instead of starting the project completely from scratch as they normally do, the Wicked Makers repurposed the skeleton and motion components from their previous THD3000 animatronic. That was massive (taller than most men) and had a thin skeleton, which made it ideal for this Ennard project. They were able to build on top of that skeleton to achieve Ennard’s proportions and serpentine body structure.
The Wicked Makers covered most of the skeleton in corrugated plastic cable wrap, which has the right appearance. But the head was more complex. The original THD3000 head was all wrong, so they had Beardless Props design a new 3D-printable noggin. That was printed and covered in more of that cable wrap. They also hand-painted the eyeballs that cover Ennard’s body, representing the essence of the other animatronic characters that went into the in-universe creation of the villain. Additional details, like exposed wire fingers and a clown hat, completed the look.
As with previous projects, the Wicked Makers used a Bottango servo driver board for control. That works seamlessly with Bottango software, which is intended specifically for animatronics projects and enables very complex motion.
To complete the video, the Wicked Makers did something new: they challenged themselves to stay overnight with the Ennard animatronic in their bedroom — almost like security guards at a Freddy’s location. It couldn’t have been pleasant to sleep with that creepy thing towering over their bed, but they managed to get through the night with only minimal movement from Ennard.
