From Linux terminals to synthesizers, what hardware enthusiasts continue to cram inside Altoids tins never ceases to amaze us. After all, they are about the right size for many small electronics projects, and close nicely to protect everything as a makeshift case. The latest addition to that list is a full gaming system powered by the new Raspberry Pi Zero W.

The brainchild of Warner Skoch aka Sudo Mod, mintyPi 2.0 is equipped with a nice little Adafruit screen in the top lid, Wi-Fi connectivity via the Zero W, and a control pad salvaged from a Nintendo DS Lite on the bottom. As you might suspect from the “2.0,” this is the YouTuber’s second try at fitting a Retro Pi gaming console into one of these tins, and is a huge leap in both usability and looks from his first version.

mintyPi 2.0 features some 3D-printed parts, like the bezel around and behind the screen, as well as a working hinge to hold it open as you play. It also includes a USB sound card rather than PWM audio, producing much clearer and better-sounding effects.

As you can see in the video below, Sudo Mod has created a few other “flavors” of the device than just peppermint: cinnamon, spearmint, and wintergreen. He plans on sharing a detailed step-by-step guide (hopefully on Hackster) in the coming days, so you can build your own mintyPi.
