This Fun Fox Facts Fax Line Delivers Exactly What Its Tongue-Twister-Esque Name Suggests
Dust off your fax machine and set it to receive, and you'll be treated to a selection of illustrated facts about foxes.
Pseudonymous maker "lpbkdotnet" has put together a project sure to tickle anyone with a love for classic communication technologies, furry friends, and homophonic puns: a fun fox facts fax line, which delivers exactly what the name suggets.
"I built a thing that will send you low quality Fun Facts about Foxes by Fax," lpbkdotnet explains of the project, which was originally planned as an installation for the Electromagnetic Field 2024 festival. "No I'm not really sure why I did either, but once it was in my head I had to make it not be."
The system is simple in its use: dial up the number on any fax machine β currently available only from the maker's internal network, though with plans to bring it to a wider audience in the future β and you'll be prompted to set your machine to receive. Do so, and you'll be treated to a faxed fox fact or three.
"[The] illustrations are by the wonderful Nelly Perkins," lpbkdotnet explains. "I'll probably put this thing on the PSTN [Public Switched Telephone Network] for a bit, if I can find a spare number I'm not already using for something else silly. I do also have the illustrations ready to go for a much more meta 'fax facts fax.'"
More information on the project is available in lpbkdotnet's Mastodon post; followers will be informed if the fax server is placed on a publicly-accessible telephone network.
