Mice are great for navigating your computer screen, but in certain situations, such as playing slither.io and other games, you would prefer it to behave more like a joystick, restricted to a certain space, rather than flying all over your screen. For this purpose, hacker Nathan Ramanathan — or Nathan² as he’s also known — has come up with an interesting two-part hack, involving a Wii Nunchuk and Pro Micro board, along with an AutoHotkey script to keep the mouse position restricted to the center of his player.

The Pro Micro takes inputs from the Nunchuk, allowing it to appear to the PC as a mouse. When used normally, the joystick navigates around the screen as you would expect, and uses the two buttons for right and left clicks. Cleverly, when it senses that it’s tilted, the joystick scrolls around the open application, adding extra functionality.

While playing games, an AutoHotKey routine does the heavy lifting of keeping the mouse/joystick centered in a circle around the player. This means that it actually follows your up/down/left/right cursor movements, rather than not sensing things correctly because you’ve simply moved more or less to one side than before! It’s a clever hack, though depending on your needs the mouse restriction/Wii Nunchuk concepts could also be quite useful by themselves.
