UDOO Drops BOLT GEAR with AMD Ryzen Embedded V1000 and Arduino Compatibility
The $399 mini PC features an AMD Ryzen Embedded V1605B processor with Radeon Vega 8 GPU, plus an ATmega32U4 for Arduino support.
UDOO has launched its latest mini PC kit (or single-board computer) with the BOLT GEAR — the second in the company’s lineup to be built around AMD’s Ryzen Embedded V1000 series processors. The BOLT was crowdfunded back in 2018 and packed four to eight Zen cores for a pledge off only $229, which was a steal considering it offered 4K support, an M.2 socket, a 10 GbE interface, and more.
The recently announced BOLT GEAR is no slouch either and comes equipped with an AMD Ryzen Embedded V1605B quad-core processor (@ 2.0GHz/3.6GHz with boost), with a Radeon Vega 8 GPU, and up to 32Gb of dual-channel DDR4 ECC RAM. It also features an M.2 Socket Key B 2260 for SATA SSD, M.2 Socket Key M 2280 for NVMe SSD, and a SATA 3.0 (6Gbps) connector for additional storage.
The UDOO BOLT GEAR is outfitted with two HDMI 1.4/2.0a ports, two DisplayPort via USB Type-C port, Realtek ALC888 HD audio codec, 3.5mm combo connector for headphone/microphone, and a 3.5mm combo connector for optical S/PDIF/stereo audio. Beyond that, the SBC boasts Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth via an M.2 Socket Key E 2230, 2x USB 3.0 Type-A, and 2x USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C ports. I/O includes two UART, two I2C, an SPI, a keyboard scan, a fan controller, and 10 GPIO.
Perhaps the most exciting feature on the BOLT GEAR is the inclusion of an ATmega32U4 subsystem that provides Arduino Leonardo-compatible I/O and a few Grove connectors for robotics, home automation, and other applications. It can even be configured to run while the unit is switched off if needed.
The BOLT GEAR is now available on UDOO’s product page for $399.
