Walnut Shell Speaker Is a Miniature Musical Masterpiece
Battery-powered Bluetooth speaker setup stuffed into walnut shell.
When you hear the term “walnut speaker,” you might reasonably assume this refers to a speaker cabinet made out of walnut wood. This build, by Penguin DIY, instead stuffs an entire Bluetooth speaker setup into a walnut shell.
As shown in the project's video, after eating the tasty snack inside, Mr. Penguin got to work first cleaning out the center of the shell for a bit more room. He then turned to miniaturizing and installing the electronics necessary for his speaker to function.
An ST6845 power bank module was first cannibalized, removing components from the PCB, and hand-soldering them together into a much more compact package. He then added a tiny LiPo battery along with a USB-C connector, with careful modifications to allow for a cable to be plugged into the nut-speaker as needed.
For audio input, he turned to an MH-M18 Bluetooth PCB, and an HXJ8002 audio amplifier is used to power a tiny speaker. Instead of taking components off of these boards, Penguin soldered them together into a sort of PCB sandwich, creating just enough room for everything to fit. He also added four buttons that activate over different resistance values, allowing for onboard control using a single input.
A star pattern of speaker holes on the walnut finishes off the build nicely, and he even taps it in two places, allowing the two halves to be screwed together. While you may or may not want (i.e. have the patience) to create something like this of your own, the video below is still an inspirational display of miniaturization skill:
