We’ve been fans of Italian Maker and producer Giuseppe Acito’s Toa Mata Band for a couple years now, ever since coming across their rendition of Daft Punk’s “Da Funk.” The group, which consists of Arduino-driven LEGO Bionicle figures modified to play tunes, has now released a cover of Kraftwerk’s “The Robots.”

Acito provides the vocals, while the toy pieces are hooked up to a MIDI sequencer to perform the 1978 remake using xylophones, pocket synths, drum pads, and even iPhone apps.

My video contribution from Toa Mata Band represents a version of the iconic tune “The Robots” using nowadays open-source technologies, microcontrollers, 3D printer, robot arm, music DAW, smarthphones, pocket synthesizers and more… trying to give a new way to read the message we got from them 40 years ago.
