During their residency at Autodesk’s Pier 9, French designers Pierre Emm and Johan da Silveira have developed the world’s first robotic tattoo artist.

If this all seems a bit familiar, that’s because the duo had hacked a MakerBot Replicator 3D printer into an automated tattoo printer a few years back. But now, they’re taking those efforts a step further with their latest creation.

As you can see in the video below, the process consists of creating a 3D scan of the desired area, mocking up the artwork using computer software, and then ensuring the recipient stays still.

Whether or not we’re looking at the future ink master, it’s still pretty damn cool.
