xDrill Is a High-End Drill Packed Full of Smart Features
This digital smart drill is equipped with laser measuring, digital leveling, intelligent speed/torque, and a touchscreen.
We cover a lot of specialized tools for makers here on Hackster, such as oscilloscopes, 3D printers, soldering irons, and more. But makers also need regular old hand tools and power tools. It’s entirely possible that you use your power drill more often than you use that expensive reflow oven. As any professional tradesman will tell you, it is absolutely worth your money to buy high quality tools if you actually use them frequently. That’s why most makers will likely be interested in the new xDrill, which is a high-end drill that is packed full of smart features.
The Robbox xDrill just launched on Kickstarter, and the campaign has already surpassed its funding goal. Smart features aside, it’s a really solid cordless power drill that is comparable to brands like Makita and Dewalt — and far better than anything you’ll find at your local Harbor Freight. It weighs 3.5 pounds and has a 21V battery that charges in a mere 45 minutes. The brushless motor can reach speeds up to 2000 RPM on the low torque setting and as low as 600 RPM on the high torque setting. The battery will last between one and three hours, depending on how hard you’re pushing it.
Those factors would make this a good drill, but the smart features are what will make you want to back the xDrill campaign. A full-color LCD touchscreen on the back gives you access to those features. It has a level that will help you find a standard 90 degrees, along with many other angles. Two built-in lasers will automatically measure the distance from the floor and a side wall so that you don’t have to bother with a level and tape measure. Onboard sensors can automatically stop the drill when you reach a preset depth. Speed and torque settings can be adjusted and stored on the fly. xDrill can be connected to a companion app via Bluetooth to quickly swap settings you’ve stored. That app will even help you locate your lost drill or disable it if it’s stolen.
If you want to get your hands on the xDrill, the Kickstarter campaign will be running until September 17th. Early birds can pledge CA$ 399 (about $297 USD) to get a single xDrill with battery, charger, and one year warranty. Rewards are expected to be delivered in February of 2021.
