You Can Back this Little Artificial Pal Modeled After the Infamous Butter Bot

Want your own Rick and Morty Butter Bot? Now is your last chance to grab one from a Kickstarter campaign ending at 9am on December 5th.

Rick and Morty is an animated TV show full of memorable characters, many of which have droves of fans in their own right. The Butter Bot, created by Rick in the canon of the show to pass butter, is one example. And now you have the chance to own your own Butter Bot, thanks to a Kickstarter campaign running right now.

This is a Kickstarter campaign from Albert Gajšak, who has four other successful campaigns under his belt. That includes the MAKERphone that Hackster’s own Jeremy Cook covered six years ago. This new Butter Bot is an officially licensed product that has already raised almost half a million dollars in funding. The campaign is only running for a few more hours, so now is your last chance to become a backer.

For the most part, this is a faithful recreation of the Butter Bot character. It is a kind of desk toy that will bring joy to the hearts of Rick and Morty fans. But it is also more than just a toy; it is an actual robot driven by AI.

Those who are well-acquainted with consumer robots will recognize this as a tank-style FPV rover in a unique package. It has a camera, a microphone, and a speaker onboard, along with a simple infrared sensor for cliff detection. It also has a dual-core processor optimized for AI, which lets it recognize objects and have conversations. You can let the Butter Bot roam around your desk being all cute, or you can pilot it more directly with a wireless remote.

That remote contains an LCD screen so you can see the FPV video feed from Butter Bot, a joystick to control its movements, and buttons to activate a handful of programmed actions. Those actions include “attack,” a quiet mode, “summon,” and 8-ball. Butter Bot also has a handful of built-in games, such as hangman and tic-tac-toe, which you play through either the controller screen or with voice commands.

It is, however, worth pointing out that Butter Bot’s arms aren’t actuated, which is a little disappointing.

If you want a Butter Bot, you have until 9am MST on December 5th to back the campaign. The Butter Bot Basic Pack costs $139 and should ship in August of 2025.
