This project was designed to solve a social or politcal problem and a huge problem I have nowadays is with my hearing. I have trouble hearing because of being exposed to excessive and harmful noise pollution throuhgout my youth and throughout highschool mainly. I was in the marching band all throughout highschool and I was in the drumline. One key part of being in drumline was keeping everyone playing at the same tempo and our band program's way, and most highschool programs, way of handling that was having us practice with an extremely loud metronome on top of our already extremely loud instruments.
Having this was very detrimental to not only me, but also all of my peers in the same section as me and it led me to think of this project. A way I would propose to possibly fix that or assist those exposed to excessive noise pollution would be having some sort of sensor nearby the sound emitter. The sensor would detect the sound based off of decibels and once the sound emitted reached a certain level that was not safe for humans, it would show a bright animation to get the attention of the users to lower the volume. Another thing that led to my terrible hearing at such a young age was going to concerts or events using large speakers. I tried to have this project showcase this problem by creating a mini amplification box to simulate an auditorum or other enclosed space and having a large speaker play music. Once the music was deemed too loud by the code, it would play a simple flashing red animation indicating the level of sound is not safe.
