Uganda has been under full lock down since march 21st till mid June. During this period access to health care services was constrained and patients had to seek permission slips for their private cars to be allowed to access hospitals Uganda out of 45 million people has about 1 million registered cars. Therefore majority of the population uses public transport means. Since the lock down pregnant ladies and emergency patients have had a very limited access to health facilities. Resulting into fatal health complications and sometimes loss of life. The country's travel restrictions for both public and private transport are still restricted with quarantine and curfew rules preventing movement from 7pm till 6:30 am in the morning. Therefore during emergency situations there is limited access to health care.
We therefore saw a need to develop an online system where different organizations ,NGOs and government institutions that provide health care to Ugandans can provide adequate health care. These same patients can also access the system online and follow up their treatments, appointments and investigations. More than 40% of Ugandans have access to the internet, so technology is a big platform for Ugandans to access health care in Uganda` and internationally. Since the entire world is being plagued by a global pandemic. More than half of the worlds population has access to internet. Therefore the internet is a powerful tool that can enable access to health care and education of the world's population.
This same online platform can be used to contact trace corona virus patients and follow up their treatment in different regions around the country.
We as Techworth Group which has been in existence for the last 3 years have developed ICT solutions for indivduals ,businesses and the general population to apply in their daily operations. So we developed a medical referral system to tackle the current Corona pandemic and support the general Ugandan health system. Patients, doctors and all other health stake holders like NGOs, hospitals, can utilize a centralized approach of providing health services to the General Ugandan population
