VisionGuard is a cutting-edge wearable device designed to assist visually impaired individuals by providing real-time obstacle detection and navigation guidance. This smart spectacle utilizes machine learning (ML) and IoT technology to enhance mobility and safety, allowing users to navigate complex environments independently.
Inspiration:Navigating crowded or unfamiliar areas can be incredibly challenging for the visually impaired. Traditional aids like walking sticks offer limited assistance, especially in dynamic settings where obstacles are constantly changing. We decided to create VisionGuard to empower visually impaired individuals with advanced technology, enabling them to move through their environments with greater confidence and independence.
How It Works:Obstacle Detection:
- VisionGuard is equipped with an ultrasonic sensor that scans the environment for obstacles. The sensor data is processed by a microcontroller (XIAO ESP32-C3), which runs a machine learning model trained to identify and classify obstacles in real-time.

Feedback Mechanism:
- When an obstacle is detected, VisionGuard provides haptic feedback through a vibration motor. The intensity of the vibration indicates the proximity of the obstacle.
- Additionally, audio feedback is delivered via Bluetooth-connected earphones, offering verbal instructions and alerts to guide the user safely.

Navigation and Control:
- The device features GPS integration for navigation, providing turn-by-turn directions to the user's destination.
- Users can control VisionGuard with voice commands, making it hands-free and easy to operate. The system can be locked to recognize only the user's voice, preventing accidental activation in noisy environments.
