This is a RGB and Gesture Sensor, a small breakout board with a built in APDS-9960 sensor that offers ambient light and color measuring, proximity detection, and touchless gesture sensing.
With this RGB and Gesture Sensor you will be able to control a computer, microcontroller, robot, and more with a simple swipe of your hand!
The APDS-9960 is a serious little piece of hardware with built in UV and IR blocking filters, four separate diodes sensitive to different directions, and an I2C compatible interface.

3. This is, in fact, the same sensor that the Samsung Galaxy S5 uses and is probably one of the best gesture sensors on the market for the price.

For your convenience we have broken out the following pins:
VL (optional power to IR LED),
GND (Ground),
VCC (power to APDS-9960 sensor),
SDA (I2C data),
SCL (I2C clock),
and INT (interrupt).
Each APDS-9960 also has a detection range of 4 to 8 inches (10 to 20 cm)
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Works ok, but of limited use as far as I can think. The maximum distance seems to be about 12 inches. The color data isn't very useful in my experience as it just seems to hover around gray with the red value a little higher. One thing to note: When the system enters the gesture state machine, color and proximity data are no longer updated. The data sheet flowchart doesn't make that clear until you look at the gesture flowchart, which shows the system stays in a tight loop within this state. I tricked the system by creating a setup that spent every other loop in the gesture state then exited it to run the non-gesture state loop. This gave me pretty much continuous color, proximity and gesture data at the expense of a larger FIFO buffer of gesture data.
I used this product as part of a project to make the Universal Studio Harry Potter wand functional at home. Worked fine, although the range was somewhat short.
