Product Description

Allows your device to both send or receive the TTL data via Bluetooth technology without connecting a serial cable to your computer.
This bluetooth bluetooth is perfect for adding bluetooth functionality to your arduino project. But don't think that it is limited to just being used there. Another use you will find for this bluetooth module is with your flight management controller on your quadcopter.
It should be able to be used with several of the available options, so long as the control software supports bluetooth functionality. With this module, you don't have to plug into your flight controller with a micro usb cable every time you want to tweak something, upload a new configuration, or check data.
So long as you are within range, youI can connect to it through bluetooth instead.
There is even an android version of your flight controller software so you can do everything from your phone and not have to carry a laptop with you. Do some googling and you should also be able to find instructions and how-to's for changing the settings on the bluetooth module itself, like the name it uses to identify itself and the pass code for pairing it with devices, along with enabling and disabling different bluetooth protocols.
Note:
1.SPP-CA Bluetooth module serial port level to 3.3V, if connect 5V level, the system needs to increase the level conversion chip.
2.The Bluetooth signal is greatly affected by the surrounding, such as trees, metals, walls and other obstacles will have a certain Bluetooth signal absorption or shielding, we advise do not installed in the metal shell.
3.Due to the metal will weaken the antenna function,we advise when you lay board for the module, the module below the antenna do not shop and alignment, it is best to hollow out.
Package included:
1*HC-06 RS232 4 Pin Wireless Bluetooth Serial Transceiver Support Module

I was strong, but was overcome ....
1 out of 5 stars
I was strong, but was overcome ....
Dantooine is far too remote to make an effective target ... So ... this little bugger was MINT ... using version: OKlinvorV1.8 and everything was PERFECT ... until I decided to change the Bluetooth name. Only then, did I learn true disappointment, like building a beautiful mansion on the beach, for years, only to --watch it get blown away in a hurricane the day I move in... or watching a thermal torpedo go into your -exhaust port after you finish your ultimate weapon. So ... I spent the hour building the circuit, since it only likes 3.3V on the RX, so that was an effort to break that out with the custom voltage divider, but then it was perfect. Connected, was talking back and forth to my phone, doing EVERYTHING I wanted, life was grand! Went on the MIT APP site and built a great little APK that sent all the commands from my devices I needed to my Arduino and it responded perfectly. I received data back from the sensors, let me make changes and update settings, I was flipping my LED lights on and off and changing colors like a BOSS ... it was like the opening day of the Star Wars Village at Disney World. Then, the dark clouds of doom and misery fell upon me, and I was lost in an abyss of dismay as the dark side of the force overcame my New Hope. But ... BUT ... all my AT commands were working perfectly, I was getting drawn into the most wonderful world of self confidence with AT and OK and AT+VERSION and OKlinvorV1.8 .. I was of the belief things were working and making my life a peach. It seemed as though NOTHING could go wrong, I was Han Solo baby, and little HC-06 was my Princess Leia. THEN ... the Force was agin me ... when I changed the Bluetooth name. This was not the outcome I was looking for. I sent AT+NAMEFrontBT1 then my Leia came back with OKsetname, and BAM, I was good! I heard the triumphant sounds of the hall of heros as I entered to accept my medal for saving the Rebelion! My little HC-06 showed up on my phone and tablet as FrontBT1! I was beaming with pride at my complete mastery of the tech world and all that had thwarted me before. But ALAS, it was not to be, I had been tricked, by some anti-jedi mind trick, somewhere deep in some spec somewhere that the Internet is loath to find. My powers were suddenly useless! I hit "+Pair New Device" expecting the standard "enter password, usually 0000 or 1234" but, dweep-dwap-doop berr berr ... a click, and another, then click, click ... clickclickclickclickclick ... NO response from anything trying to pair ... my devices all just ignored my demand to pair, like I was a chump, just fooled into a daylong hope of finishing a project. It was at this moment .... that I knew. So if you get it working perfeclty, like I did, DO NOT MESS WITH IT!! Don't chance settings, leave the BAUD, NAME and PWD the same ... or you'll get Alderaaned (like, obliterated with grief). I mean, I GET IT, the Empire needs to make money selling these things to us, they got Death Stars to build and all, but could they AT LEAST TEST them pretty thoroughly before selling them, so we don't waste HOURS of our time only to get a NON WORKING product? Just saying ... the force was not with me today.

Programming the HC-06 was fairly easy to do. The one thing to remember is that these are slave-only mode, so you can't use them as masters. Which is fine for most embedded projects out there. As a result, the HC-06 uses only a subset of the AT commands for programming, such as setting the name, PIN, and baud rate but not being able to get them out of the device's EEPROM.

The range is typical of most Bluetooth devices out there, barring any kind of interference by structures or otherwise. Runs on 3.3V and is well-behaved from what my meter showed, as it was able to sleep with only minimal current drain on the board.

I used this in an Arduino Nano project, which I later transferred to a Teensy 3.6. It was practically seamless jumping from one to the other. I used the SoftwareSerial library for UART communication. After about 15 minutes of fiddling around with it on both boards, I was able to talk to it using my smartphone and my laptop.

    Excellent build quality.
Since these are HC-06 they cannot be configured as 'master'. For interacting with an Arduino (etc.) project and a smartphone (android only) these are ideal - work good, last a long time.

Both worked when I started using these but one died after a couple of days. I was using 5v digital data out of a Nano, my bad, I thought the Nanos' had 3.3 volts outputs. The other worked fine after I put a logic level controller between the Nano and the HC-06. Get some Logic level converts if your using 5v outputs like a Nano or uno.

This bluetooth board is great for adding wireless connectivity to your embedded projects. It operates in slave-only mode, so something like your smartphone or computer (or a master bluetooth module) needs to initiate the connection. I had it up and running talking to my android phone within five minutes. I needed to download a free bluetooth terminal app from the google play store, but otherwise it really is plug-and-play!
