Hook up wire is used in a variety of general-purpose electrical applications. Stranded copper wire provides good electrical connectivity while PVC insulation protects the wire against abrasion, chemicals, oils, and solvents. The wire conforms to UL and MIL-spec specifications, and provides excellent uniformity for easy processing, stripping, and terminating. Kit includes Black, Blue, Green, Red, White, & Yellow.

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Customers find the wire to be of high quality and appreciate its functionality, with one mentioning it works perfectly for plug wires. They like the color variety, with one customer noting it comes in six colors, and find it suitable for small jumpers and microcontroller circuits. However, the insulation receives mixed feedback, with several customers noting it is incredibly thick and stiff.

The fine 28 gauge stranded wire and the colors are exactly what I use to repair some ribbon cables on a printed circuit board. Using a very small soldering iron, about 25W, and very fine solder with resin core, I run these wires from circuit point to circuit point in parallel with one or more of the open conductors in a ribbon cable. The colors help to keep track of multiple conductors being paralleled. It's exacting work and should only be attempted if you are realty good at soldering in tight places. I actually studied soldering techniques used by NASA in the Saturn-Apollo program. Make sure you also have a wire stripper that can get down to 28 gauge. Most standard strippers do not. Soldering the fine wire to a pad or a trace on the PCB requires care. If the iron dwells too long the pad/trace may lift or melt. Too short and a cold solder joint results.
If you're thinking of other uses for this fine wire be sure to keep the electrical current (Amps) within the wire's rating. Otherwise it'll act as a fuse!
Worked fine for me. Great way to organize the wires. The only problem is the spool keeps pulling the wire back through the box, so I have to leave it open most of the time. It would be great if it had a little clamp to keep the wires from falling back in the box.
The wire is a decent quality and had no issues using it for small jumpers.
While building my Raspberry Pi powered PIGRRL I found that I did not have any of the correct gauge wire and set off looking for hookup wire. After a-lot of searches for quality wire at a reasonable price I came across this wire. When it arrived I found the wire was as solid but not too rigid. The colors are all good. The insulation is stiff and will probably require wire strippers to remove the ends. In the end I would buy this product again without hesitation.
Insulation is incredibly thick, making the total outside diameter about the same as 24 gauge or larger. It's really twice as thick as any 28 gauge wire I've used before.
That renders it useless for crimping into any connector that's designed for typical 28 gauge wire.
But you can't crimp it into connectors expecting 24 gauge either...because while the insulation will fit, the wire won't secure.
I work on electric guitars and these are a good match for the narrower "humbucker" wires. Good multi copper strands with an appropriate thickness covering. Easy to work with and strips easily without pulling out copper strands. Takes solder very well. A great addition to my work bench in a handy dispenser.
