Great printer for beginners

- Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2024This is my first 3D printer and I'm glad I went for this model as the Anycubic Kobra Neo has the self leveling. It allows you to do more printing and less fiddling. And there is enough of a learning curve with 3d printing. I'm hooked and already have my next printer picked out. This is still a great printer, I'm glad I got it. It comes with a memory card, the controls are easy, it worked right out of the box, I've tried a few different filaments and they all have printed well. Only learning curve part, after trying to get the Z (height) right, is I didn't realize it purposely spits out filament when you retract it to clear the nozzle. I thought it was going crazy. Also, I had to figure out how to generate gcode and slice things for printing. It only prints gcode but I've been able to convert things into it with either Pursa slicer or Ultimaker Cura. Ultimaker worked easily but the Pursa slicer didn't have this model and I had to guess to enter the dimensions and I think I messed it up. This seems to be either too obscure or new a model. I thought I read the thumb drive has the specs on it but I haven't looked yet. I got this for my kids for Christmas but it's become mine. I'm trying to get my husband into it but it's basically all mine. I also didn't know filament should be kept in airtight containers/bags and away from moisture so I got a set of bags with silica gel packets. More learning curve! It's a fin hobby but I can see it getting expensive fast and I hate the plastic waste tho many filaments say they are biodegradable. It's been fun making things for people and it adds even more to my hidden geek persona, lol.

The printer is boxed nicely and is easy to unpack.
Setup is straight forward with only 8 bolts. The hardware seems of better quality then my other printers, and the tools were better as well. The wrenches are probably what impressed me the most being 4” long (about) and twice as thick as normal. I’ll be tossing my other cheap ones to keep these on hand.
I would like to see some zip ties included to secure the cabling better. I really like the XT60 connectors on it. The limiting switches I’m not a huge fan of how they connect, but it works. The switch nearest the screen was very tight on mine so I undid the wrap and reran it. I notice the power and a bundle of wires are quite close to the bed limiter and need to be up tied out of the way. The bundle does hit the bed. I’ll need to address this.
Install was simple. Instructions were very clear.
Now for printing.
When I turned it on the first thing I noticed was it doesn’t have a silent board. This thing sounds like your run of the mill 3D printer and is the loudest of the 6 that I have. I usually have my newest printer running prints next to be for a week before relocating it to the shop. Not the case for this one. I’ll be moving it because of the noise. -1 star Anycubic for this. Printer in this current range of around $200 should be silent. I believe this printer originally released closer under $200 per some reviews I’ve read.
On to print quality. The owl it printed was a hot mess once it got to the beak area. I believe that’s because it printed hollow and the included filament- I need to look into that. The filament is labeled as PLA+. I got a lot of stringing with it, and it’s spooled super tight. I moved the filament holder to the front just to hold it for now. I ended up switching to some leftover Hatchbox filament for my Benchy and got a better print.
I provided a video on leveling the gantry as mine as expected was loose.
Oh, and the profiles they provide on the no brand SD card for Cura don’t work. I ended up comparing it to the .1 profile Cura had and made some adjustments. Going to need some fine tubing for this.
Thing I liked:
Easy assembly, good instructions
Good hardware and tools
Has a corner level option in the menu which speeds things along
Seems to print decently. I ran a print though this and my Ender 3 and this actually came out better.
Things I don’t like, none of which affect the printing
Non-silent stepper drivers
Bed springs are so skinny they bind. Going to try my upgraded Ender springs. (Tried and Ender springs worked great!)
Some poor cable management (fixed with zip ties)
Generic PSU
No name SD card (not sure how many r/w it will take but works fine)
Cura profiles on sd card don’t seem to work
Would I recommend this printer? For the right price, yes.
5.0 out of 5 starsThis is my 5th FDM printer, I was looking to add another to my printing business and size didn’t matter so wanted to try one by AnyCubic.Good budget printer. Needs a few upgrades.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 20, 2021Update: From 3 stars to 1 star
The magnetic bed cover broke after just a few uses. I am very disappointed in this purchase.
If you want something that is *okay* and will save you money, I guess, go with this. Especially if you plan to print primarily in PLA. I primarily print in ABS and have been using 3D printers for 2 years going on 3. This printer is tricky to work with for ABS. Anycubic will tell you all these awesome filaments their machines work with but leave out how difficult it is for some of them to print it. If you're going to or want to print a whole lot of ABS, go with the i3 MEGA S instead. This printer is printing small test prints pretty well, but once you start putting bigger files that have more curves to them, you run into big problems.
BAD INSTRUCTIONS! - While it is extremely easy to set up in less than 30 minutes, the instructions are incomplete to where to put a couple of the wires.
JUNK WIRES! - Just putting the axis at home made two of the wires pop off. Consider upgrading pieces or use a strong glue to hold them in place if you're brave.
Also, the box it came in? Had one short measly piece of tape across the top and my package was delivered opened because the rain got under the tape and there wasn't enough tape to really stick down to the cardboard to begin with.
There was already blue PLA in my nozzle, I am sure it was just to test the machine and make sure it runs... however, it would have been smart to clean it out before sending to a customer. We don't all like PLA.
The good: the print resume feature, the easy leveling, slightly bigger build surface than other machines in it's price range, you can change nozzle temp while it's heating up(this is especially helpful if it won't keep a consistent temperature, you can actually slice your file to be a higher temp then change the temp on the printer when it gets to the one you want, this way you aren't waiting more than 5 min for it to heat up and be ready.)
The bad: the menu knob(would rather the touch screen, the knob isn't always feasible when you need to make quick selections), the very simple-minded menu, flimsy bowden tube, not doing well with ABS, noisy, not printing files from certain slicers, packed terribly, some prints that print immaculately on other Anycubic printers look like a hot mess on this one, incomplete instructions, bad/loose/cheap wires.
If you are buying this to use for a business and are a beginner, I will tell you right now, it's not as easy as other reviewers have made it seem. I am only one filament type in. Maybe the printer doesn't like this one? I will update if anything starts to get better.... looking like a possible return already, sadly. Probably going to get an Ender3 or Prusa Printer next. GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU WHO FELL FOR THE REVIEWS LIKE I DID! I don't know what kind of magic the people in the reviews are working but it must be good! lol

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding at sale price
At this price point this is an unreal printer.
Had middling expectations when I saw the cost and bought it to see if I would bd interested in making things.
This printer has a very reasonable learning curve, has a very user friendly interface and prints some very good quality pieces with impressive speed.
You will run into problems while running off your first dozen prints, but I would honestly blame a lot of user error and poor slicing.
Can understand if others have experienced issues, but can't state how happy I am with 40hrs of prints from delivery.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don’t use these guys !
We bought from them, put the printer together and it didn’t work. We then packed it back and returned it for a refund and they say as it was opened they will refund 50 percent ! Absolute joke of a business ! Should not be allowed to operate on Amazon if they behave like this

Me gustaron muchas características de esta impresora empezando con la rapidéz de armado. El sistema automático de nivelación, cama que mantiene bien adherido el objeto impreso y la calidad de impresión. Realmente estoy no solo satisfecho, sino encantado.
