It's very bright and dimmable.
Great product. I'm using this to make a heads up display for my car, it will display my speed onto the windshield. I've included a picture of the 3d printed holder I made for it and a photo of testing it in my car.

Bought these after trying to convert my own 16 pin to I2C with a separately purchased backpack. These come all assembled, work great, and are a good value. Absolutely standard brightness, adjustment and compliance with the AdaFruit and other libraries.

1.2" display is very bright and easy to read. I'm using it as a simple clock connected to a Pi Zero. I wrote a simple Python script with the help of the Adafruit_Python_LED_Backpack library. The display is easy to assemble with only a little bit of soldering required.

This was perfect for use with a Raspberry Pi Zero to make a digital clock, that sets itself via Network Time Protocol (NTP). Never need to set my clock and I can see it at night without having to put my glasses on!

Excellent item. The soldering of the display to the controller board is not too difficult. You need to snip one of the six pin headers to fit the up-link pins.
Be advised: if using with a Raspberry Pi the V-ID and +5 lines must be connected (that is, all five of the lines, especially when using two or more).
