Yes, I'm lazy. Yes, this thing is awesome for people who are both lazy and pragmatic.
I purchased this device for my bedroom lamps. I got tired of getting out of bed every time my wife wanted me to either shut off or switch on one of the 3 lamps which are located in different corners of the room.
For less than $20, this device is a godsend.
Installation was quick. You simply plug it into the designated outlet, plug your appliance in, place the battery into the remote, and you're good to go.
As far as capacity goes, I'd limit using this with small devices that don't require a huge amount of wattage and amperage. For example, I wouldn't plug a hairdryer into it. The device build seems like it is of very good quality, but it's obviously meant only for small appliances (like a Honda Civic is a pretty reliable car, but you wouldn't use it to tow a large boat up a steep hill).
The range of the remote is quite decent. I haven't tested what the maximum range is but have used it from at least 20 feet away outside my bedroom with the doors closed.
Since installing this device, I've managed to save a lot of energy and conserve a lot of calories by doing less walking around my room. It's glorious.
Another practical application I have for this device is that I use another one to control the wireless router in our home. If you have a computer-savvy teenager lurking about in your wonderful abode, simply changing the wireless password will not restrict them from finding ways to gain access. I've found that the easiest and most practical way to control Internet access is very straightforward: Shut off the router. Using the Etekcity wireless outlet power control allows you to do this without having to leave the comfort of your bed..or toilet...or wherever you may be in your house that is around 20 feet from your router. To switch it off, just click on the off button on your remote. Wi-fi instant off. To switch it back on, simply hit the on button on your remote and your wireless router should instantly start rebooting.
DISCLAIMER: Please note that I am very familiar with my wireless router and home network setting. If you are not computer-savvy and already have an unreliable wireless home network to begin with, I do not recommend shutting of your router. Also, if your home wireless network was configured by your cable provider and you are renting your equipment from them, I do not recommend doing this.
As a simple solution for things such as wireless control of your lamps, I highly recommend this product. I'm probably going to buy another one for all the lights in the living room and front entrance area. Since there are more lights downstairs, I'm probably going to get the set that includes 5 outlet units.

Possibly Saved My Kid
I just had one of these short out so I thought it's probably a good occasion to share my thoughts on this product. These have served the last 8 months in my boys' bedroom as a means for Mom or Dad to turn their reading lights off when it's bedtime and in that role they've actually been fairly useful. Today I was in another room when the lights flashed momentarily and I heard a pop. I immediately went to my children's room because, well, you go to where trouble can usually be found. There I found that one of the reading lights was off and the remote switch would no longer activate it. So I took it apart to see if I could fix it. What I found was curious. The solder trace on the back side of the board that connects what looks like a thermal switch to one end of the relay blew completely apart leaving a metallic deposit on the plastic housing. Given that there's nothing here but a thick trail of solder I can only assume that there was a strong internal surge that went found this the path of least resistance. This could very well be an intentional feature of the circuit to protect the user in just this sort of event and if that's the case nice work, because it was very effective. If not... <EDIT> Well, as it turns out I was fiddling with the reading lamp it was connected to and the physical switch on it had a massive short (a crackling, flashing, smoking, short). So this remote switch (the bit plugged into the wall) actually served a sacrificial role and prevented some serious injury happening to my little boy. So for that, I'm bumping the stars all the way up. Seriously, thank you, even if it wasn't necessarily intended to function that way.
