Piece of Junk! The housing for this is molded plastic and I bought two of these from two different distributors and both of the units had the bottom and top of the casting misaligned by a half a thread pitch so that the threads on both sides do not fit a PVC FPT fitting AT ALL! The only hope I have of using these is to apply a generous amount of solvent cement to the male fitting and try to tighten the female fitting quickly enough to get enough contact surface to reliably seal it.
The fact that it took 4 weeks to receive this one and 6 weeks to receive the other, didn't help my opinion either...
This is an amazingly nice flow meter for the price. And hall effect sensor/electronics are completely isolated from the liquid (they are magnetically coupled through the plastic), which is nice. My main complaint is a small misalignment in the mold halves when it was cast. The mold joint runs along the length of the unit - parallel with the axis of the pipe. That means that any misalignment in the mold halves causes an offset in the threads of the input and output. This makes it hard to thread into the mating fitting (such that you fear breaking the plastic) and hard to seal the joint against leaks.
I ordered 10 of these. All were well constructed and exactly what I expected. 9 worked properly. 1 gave a high output and did not pulse....so I can't give 5 stars.
It works if you can get it to stop leaking. I purchased the brass adapters to convert US Pipe Thread to this British Parallel Pipe (PP) thread. The adapter thread is deep and the meter threads are short. The usual PP seals do not work. I have tried Teflon alone, Teflon with Pipe compound, PVC cement and thinking good thoughts. Nada. I am on the verge of mixing some JB Weld. Any other ideas?
