DVI consistently works better than VGA

DVI consistently works better than VGA
This is a great monitor for the price. The colors are good. The resolution is good. There is no sound, but it doesn't claim to have it. My only caveat is one inconsistency. Operationally there seems to be a glitch when it comes to VGA. For clarity and explanation to those not used to jargon, VGA uses the blue female plug on the back of the monitor and DVI uses the white female plug on the back of the monitor. (The photo shows the DVI connection in use, and the VGA not. The other wire running to the back of the monitor is the power.) To be thorough, I have hooked this monitor up to two different Mac laptops and one Dell desktop, as well as different VGA and DVI wires, in order to rule out issues with other hardware in the system. In all cases, if utilizing the DVI connection, the monitor works great every time, but if utilizing the VGA connection it's a game of chance. The same computer and VGA wire that worked before is no guarantee that it will work next time. Considering that I routinely unhook my laptop, this kind of inconsistency can be infuriating. Thus, while this screen is a good investment, I'd recommend also investing in a wire like Cable Matters Gold Plated Mini DisplayPort (Thunderbolt Port Compatible) to DVI Cable in White 6 Feet for a laptop or a wire like Cable Matters Gold Plated DVI-D Dual Link Cable with Ferrites 10 Feet for a desktop. It will just save you some frustration... It also comes with both a DVI and VGA wires but, if memory serves, they were a little short.

I bought this from Amazon Warehouse Deals, saving a few bucks over the standard Amazon list price. (Thanx, Amazon!) I got it within about 2 days of placing my order. After opening, I let the monitor warm up a bit before hooking it up to my PC to replace my old Planar monitor that up and died the other day. Alas, the Planar served me well. After hooking it up and turning it on, I had to do a little playing around with the aspect ratio to get my screen to look "normal" vs. stretched the full length of the screen. Once the aspect was set, I played with the monitor controls and did some fine tuning to achieve what appears to be a bright, vivid, sharp monitor image. I used a free software program downloaded from online to further calibrate my screen as that what I see is what I get. The program is called Calibrize. Now, I have a terrific picture and the color seems true, not too dark, not too light, excellent contrast, and strong colors without being overly saturated. All in all, I'm very pleased with the monitor picture (the most important). I am also pleased, however, with the size and the appearance of the monitor. It's very lightweight compared to my old Planar which was LCD, and it's sharp-looking with its narrow frame and large screen. I like the stand in that it tilts rather easily and stays in place. Although it does not rotate, it's easy to turn because it's so light-weight.
I happy to have an LED monitor and hope it lasts as long as my Planar did.
Thumbs up on this Acer S220HQL. I know it will be great watching movies on this nice, wide screen. :)

I bought 3 of these monitors about 7 months ago, and added a 4th one month ago. So far, I really like them. They are light-weight, use very little electricity, give off very little heat and don't have much glare, even in a bright room. They seem pretty clear to me, but I'm no expert, and my last monitor was around 15 years old, so anything's an improvement. One small thing, though. The 4th monitor I bought is supported approximately 2 3/4 inches above the base/stand bottom, whereas the stands in the first 3 have the monitor up 1 3/4 inches, so it would be mildly annoying if I wanted to line them all up side by side. Luckily, I have a funky, multi-level desk, so the new monitor went above the other three and it was no problem. I don't know if the higher stand is the new normal, but it's something to contemplate/investigate if you're going for multiple monitors.

I got this monitor to go with a new gaming PC I wanted to build. Since I still had buyer's remorse over the computer's components, I elected to get the least expensive full HD monitor I could find. When I got this one, it was $99, but I see the price went up. At $99, it was a great value. At $139, you could still do much worse. As far as monitors go, this is pretty solid. I haven't had this product for more than a few weeks, but if it has some disaster later, I'll edit this review.

+Good brightness. I had to crank it down considerably so it didn't hurt my eyes in my dark bedroom, but it's good to have the option.
+Simple to set up. Most monitors are like this, though; you just plug it in and your computer does the rest.
+Affordable. $139 is still a pretty reasonable price for this monitor.
+1080p. You don't notice what you're missing until you go full HD, but once you do, you'll never want anything less. Text is pretty crisp, and there's plenty of detail in my games.
+Decent viewing angles. I don't know what type of screen this is (IPS, TN, whatever), but I can move my head and still be able to make out the image pretty well. The colors get messed up a bit the more to the side you go, but not to the point that the image is ever difficult to see.

-When the screen is black, you can see some light bleeding in from the edges. I think this is called backlight bleed, but I'm not sure. Not noticeable normally, but when it is, it's annoying.
-Maybe I set up the stand incorrectly, but the screen wobbles at the slightest jolt. My table isn't very firm, either, so it's a bit of an issue for me.
-All the buttons are on the bottom edge of the frame. This means that it's a bit harder to adjust the screen's settings, or turn it on and off. The monitor's menu assigns functions to the buttons (you have to enter the menu to adjust brightness or contrast, instead of just pressing a certain button), which is annoying. Also, pressing the buttons makes the screen wobble.

Note: out of the box, the screen is blindingly bright and the image is very washed-out. I used the color calibration utility in Windows 8.1 to fix the second problem, so that the image is richer and warmer, and text is darker. I don't know if this was the monitor's fault or that of my computer, but it's something to consider.

Overall, I would recommend this monitor to anyone wanting full HD on a budget. For more money, you can get better resolution or more color saturation, but at this price point, I have not found anything major to complain about.

You can't go wrong with this monitor. The picture is so vivid and clear. I love the matte finish on the screen because it helps with reducing glare. Ultra thin and light. Comes with VGA and DVI inputs and Acer even includes both cables! The only set back is that it is not HDMI capable but you can always get a HDMI to DVI adapter which are priced very reasonably.

I ended up ordering four of these for our office to replace some HP monitors that had gone bad. They are definitely worth the investment and if the time arises and we need more, this is the monitor we will surely go with for on now.

Comes with a one-year limited warranty.

This is an extremely good monitor, and incidentally, it's one of the cheapest 1080p displays you can get for the price. What's more, it comes with the power cord as well as a vga and dvi cord as well. With that said, one of the down sides to this monitor is the fact that it only has the option of vga and dvi input, though you could always get an hdmi or displayport adapter if you really wanted to. Also, it's stock display settings have the brightness and contrast cranked to ungodly levels, so don't freak out when you first plug it in to your computer. You'll definitely need to spend some time tweaking the settings (also doesn't hurt to adjust your color settings on your gpu), but once you do, the display you get with this monitor is pure awesomeness.

I got a good deal on the monitor from warehouse deals. It was basically brand new and functioned perfectly. Couldn't have asked for more out if it. The colors seem a little washed out and it's not the brightest, but it was honestly really good for the price.

this might be just me, but the underside buttons are difficult to tell what you are pressing almost all of the time.. out of the box the screen is alittle too bright, some some light grays will disappear on white backgrounds.. however it is a decent monitor, i think its worth its price.. my only gripe is the screen being too bright out of box and the buttons being kinda stupid, i'd honestly like some front facing buttons more
