Perfect for Pi Zero

Perfect for Pi Zero
Bought a Raspberry Pi Zero and needed internet to it for use with Pi-Hole. This worked instantly right out of the box. I have no experience using this with any other product but for Raspberry Pi's it works perfectly.

Upon getting the adapter and plugged it into the RP Zero W, it quickly got connected via ethernet without changing anything in the settings. I got the adapter mostly because when I tired to connect via SSH, it would lag and disconnect me. This fixed my issue and works at the right price, even the intergrated light for activity is great. Would recommend as a budget adapter.

Works fine with my Pi Zero. The plastic housing on the one I was shipped was poorly made and guts rattled around inside when it was moved. If you need something that's not going to be moved around a lot, this is a decent buy. If you need one that will be plugged and unplugged a lot and subject to being jostled around, I'd spend a few extra bucks and get one with a better made housing. Personally, I just popped the case of because I'm going to build it into a larger enclosure to house the pi and it's accessories.

The product takes more power (think 200ma) than most others. This does work on a Raspberry Pi zero. It does not work on many old tablets. It works on a generic android, but not on an older fire tablet.
When I say it doesn't work, I mean it won;t even power on. When the device you are connecting this to provides enough power, it works flawlessly. So while slightly disappointing, for the price, if it works, saves me connecting via a powered hub or awkward adapter. All said devices that did not work with this device worked fine with a QGeem USB 3.0 ethernet adapter via an adapter. That results in awkwardly long connection out of the device. Wish this took a little less power and would work on the other devices. Just know.

All of these units seem to have the same MAC address so you cannot put more than one on the same network or they will conflict.

I have a situation where I want several computers connected to the network simultaneously -- More than one of these devices would not work where several of the more expensive devices have worked fine

Also the RJ45 connection is not transformer isolated leading to the potential for unwanted interference or
due to even worse due to voltage differences between the network connection and the computer.

This device may work OK in many circumstances but is high risk to your computer due to lack of isolation and may not work on your network at all or could interfere with other devices on the network.

    Pay more and be safe.

It came with no instructions. I plugged into my android 6.0 tablet. And to an ethernet cable connected to my router. Immediately worked. After turning off my wifi. Very fast now. No more 2.4g bottleneck. .

So, you need a really inexpensive micro-USB Ethernet adapter. Maybe you're plugging in a tablet or a phone, but most likely, you're thinking of hanging it off a Pi or some other project SBC. This one... works. That's about all I can say for it.

Pros: Yes, it works. The current draw isn't great, but since I run on AC, I don't really care. Plugs right into a Pi Zero W 1.0, no problem. USB kernel drivers in tree have no trouble picking it up. You get a network interface.

Cons: A lot. It has a ridiculously bright constantly flashing red light that shines right through the cheap translucent housing that can't be disabled. It's also surprisingly large? Like, weirdly big for how little is in there. Despite being advertised as a 10/100 interface, it's straight up not. It's literally only capable of negotiating half duplex 10bT. If you turn off auto-negotiation and set any other PHY mode, it just fails. So, it's slow. Very slow. Swapping the cables has no effect on this. Also, it only has the one MAC address and it doesn't seem to be settable.

The upshot: It's barely worth the six bucks, honestly, but it does actually work. Just barely. And annoyingly. Also, slowly. I was kind of in a pinch and being able to order this in a hurry solved a problem for me, but it didn't solve the problem for me very well. Nor did it solve the problem without introducing a bunch of other annoyances.
