Rod magnets made of neodymium

Rod magnets have a classic cylindrical design that many of us remember from school. Their diameter is generally smaller than their height, however, we also depict magnets that have the same diameter and height. In our online shop, you can buy strong neodymium rod magnets in different heights and diameters, which achieve very high adhesive forces even at small sizes. But thanks to their narrow shape, rod magnets can be easily separated by hand. Do you need red-green magnetic rods for school use instead? Discover the selection of AlNiCo magnets in our shop.
By the way: We categorise neodymium magnets with a height smaller than their diameter as disc magnets.

Buy bar magnets - wide selection, low prices
Just like any other magnet, the adhesive force of bar magnets depends on their measurements. The larger the height and diameter, the stronger they are. In our online shop, you can find a large selection of different styles. Utilise our filter to find the right rod magnets for your project. Bulk pricing is available for various products. The larger the order quantity, the lower the unit price.Direction of magnetisation of rod magnets
Axial magnetisation: Most of the magnetic rods in our assortment are axially magnetised, which means the north and south pole are located at the ends of the rod. The magnetisation is therefore similar to that of a compass needle. The rod magnet does not have any magnetic pull in the middle.Diametrical magnetisation: Some of our products are diametrically magnetised, such as product S-04-10-DN for example. These rod magnets have their north and south pole on each of the long sides, ergo they are located "left" and "right" and not as with axially magnetised rods on the "top" and "bottom". While axially magnetised rods can be lined up at their circular areas, diametrically magnetised rods line up next to each other like fish fingers. They are good accessories for interesting experiments and for creating impressive magnetic sculptures.
Practical applications for rod magnets
- Rod magnets work well on a whiteboard, magnetic board or fridge if you want to hang up photos, notes, etc. Thanks to their oblong shape they are easier to grip than flat disc magnets, making it easier to reposition the attached objects.
- Neodymium rod magnets are also suitable for inserting into drilled holes, which allows for several objects to be combined magnetically or to create magnetic clasps for jewellery, wooden boxes, etc.
- Would you like to conduct experiments around the topic of magnetism in school or at university? Then, long rod magnets are the right choice. They work well if you want to make magnetic field lines visible with iron filings - a classic among physics experiments.
- By using rod magnets and steel spheres, you can create ever-changing magnetic sculptures - according to our customers this may lead to a certain amount of addiction!
- Another practical application in workshops is holding and collecting screws and metal filings with the help of rod magnets.
What happens when you break a rod magnet?
If a rod-shaped permanent magnet with north and south pole at the circular areas was broken in half, both parts would have a north and south pole. If you broke it again, all other parts would also have both different poles.Where is the strongest spot on a rod magnet?
The adhesive force of any magnet is the strongest at their poles. An axially magnetised rod is strongest at its ends because the magnetic field lines are most concentrated there. A rod magnet has practically no magnetisation in the middle.Neodymium rod magnets at supermagnete.nl
