- Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2023It is exactly as described, which is exactly what you'd want in a product. It is tinned copper, so it's easy to solder to and has good conductivity. PVC is not bad as an insulator for protection of the wire, but it does shrink and become soft when heated to soldering temperatures. This doesn't seem to be as bad as other PVC insulations in other products, however. The colors are vivid and distinct from each other which really helps.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2014If you compare prices on how much a similar assorted 22 AWG kit cost, you'll find this kit very competitively priced, but with the convenience of home delivery. For $20, you also get a handy cardboard dispenser; its pictured incorrectly as the holes at the rear of the box are what you use to spool out the wire, otherwise you won't be able to close the box.
A problem buying wire is while it can be found online most anywhere, the savings is lost on shipping and handling cost. The maker of this wire sells each spool individually for $1.50, but will ramp up quickly to over $20 for 6 due to shipping and handling. So if you need a fast fix and aren't stockpiling wire, you can't beat this kit.
Beware the specs rate the insulation of this wire only to 300VAC rms, so if used to service 240V AC appliances, you should supplement the insulation with good electrical tape.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2013I used this wire to build a time-travel machine. The need for a time-travel machine became apparent when I realized that my best days were behind me. Even my food choices have become a problem. For instance, the best pizza I ever had was from a now defunct pizza vendor called Pizzamania. Spicy, savory, crust good enough to eat from stem to stern (no stray pieces left on the plate), and plenty of mozzarella. Similarly, there is no good place to get take-out fish and chips since Tony's Sea Chef was closed down to make room for a new apartment complex.
A time-travel machine would enable me to go back to the days when both Pizzamania and Tony's Sea Chef were still selling what I need.
My time-travel machine isn't working yet--I have some ideas, and will keep working on it. I hope the orange color of the wire insulation isn't preventing proper flow of electrons.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 15, 2016I always have trouble with these kinds of products and picturing it mentally. I knew it was going to be a box with wire in it, but I guess it was smaller than I thought it would have been. In reality, it's not, because it's only 25' of each color. The wire is a small gauge, so 25' isn't all that impressive to look at. Fortunately, I don't need to look at my wire cache, I just need to use a little of it in a project. This box keeps it nice and neat, which is exactly what I wanted and needed in my project. Keep electrical work clean! The color selection is great. Can never go wrong with red and black. Great for small projects.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 2, 2013This is a very handy set of 6 spools for hobby work. Every work bench should have a set of these. The spools are sturdy plastic on a wooden rod. It's easy to pull out. I recommend wrapping the box with 2" packing tape to make it a little more durable and water resistant, since it's a cardboard box. I used it for wiring low powered LED lighting for cars and lawnmowers, which need a flexible copper wire and a variety of colors. It can handle up to 70 watts at 12 volt DC, which now includes a lot of inexpensive and unbreakable LED spot lights and work lights. in my case, it's license plate lights and tiny work lights for dark recesses of my lawn mower.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2019Pretty decent wire for a beginner. Gauge of wire was off slightly but not enough for it to matter to me. It varied from spool to spool by about a single gauge. I've seen a lot of reviews that said the wire was full silver, which honestly I was kinda hoping for. Silver is a better wire then tinned copper. However, mine ended up being just plain old tinned copper. Not saying they didn't get silver, but saying that I didn't... so take that however you wish. The box has holes in both front and back to feed cable... but honestly the front holes are useless. Back works fine. No issues with stripping the cable yet, and it seems to hold up well. I've been using it for Custom HPA systems in Airsoft guns without a single hitch yet. Giving it a three star mainly due to the inconsistent gauge of wire in my box. Not enough to matter for me, but could be a pretty big issue for others.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 3, 2015No other way to put it, the project is awesome! Wish rolls had twice the length of wire on each as there never seems to be enough for those long runs, but I must say the box is perfect for rolling out and cutting off just what you need. The photo is a bit misleading. There are holes on the front and the back, but you can't close the lid using the front holes as in the photo. If you use the holes on the back, the lid closes nicely, and you can stack them on your rack for easy rollout and cut.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2018If you need stranded multi-color wire, this is will do. It's great for prototyping. The insulation strips well (easy enough to work with). But mostly, I like convenience and packaging - very handy. It is cost effective when working on small projects that benefit from multi-colors. It is easy enough to twist your own pair of wires. I also have the matching "solid wire" version of this product - it makes a great setup.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Value
What can you say about wire? It's a decent value and comes in a box that can also be used as a dispenser.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wire colour standards
Great to have the multi-coloured wire to keep current running devices specific to colour. Pretty much standard of trade anyway

5.0 out of 5 stars Good kit (IT IS STRANDED)
I bought this kit to custom length jumper cables for breadboards. This kit is stranded core (meaning multiple core wires). It is more flexible and more than sufficient for most DIY projects to build prototypes (so I kept it) but not for breadboard.
Look for "solid core", the same brand has a "twin" product just for that.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good all around stranded hook up wire but beware, the insulation is a bigger to deal with
For the money you get a decent length of each colour but it is still on the expensive side. I paid just under $30 for the package but I see the price has been jacked up.
The wires solder easily enough but know that the insulation is not as heat tolerant as a really good quality wire will have. I also find that stripping the insulation is difficult, it’s a very hard coating that makes the wire stiff and which then oddly melts at lower temps when soldering. Whether I use a stripper or blade it's not an easy process. This also means that if in your project you have components that will move and cause the wires to flex you'll want to pass on this stuff.
For basic electronic projects this works fine. Make sure you chose the right wire, if your project will be using high DC current, anything above 3 amps continuous you’ll want to go up a gauge.
The box it comes in is a nice attempt at keeping the rolls together but it’s useless as far as it not being pulled off a shelf as you draw out wire. There isn't enough weight to hold the box considering how stiff the wires are. Then if you’ve drawn out to much it’s a bugger getting it back into the box.
