- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2019This is an excellent little kit and the price is great. Nice variety of parts and the tutorial contained on the CD is a pleasant bonus. I have purchased from ELEGOO before and they are a great company to deal with.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2017Comes with all the parts needed for a learning novice. Mine originally came with some sort of bad USB drivers or something of the sort. After several hours of searching, I was able to use FLIP to install the hex drivers properly. If you need to do this you'll see you are told to short pin closest to the USB plug but closest to the edge of the board. However, on this board, it is the opposite. You connect the pin closest to the USB plug and most towards the center of the board pin to the GND. you d not need to worry about shorting the capacitor-like on the UNO tutorials. Keep that pin grounded and plug it into the USB and computer and it should show up in unknown devices then for you to install drivers manually.
after that It's worked like a charm since. very impressed with this little thing.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2021The core of the system, the Mega 2560 R3 board, seems reasonable quality. The power supply board, for the breadboard, also appears to be of basically good quality.
The breadboard has inconsistent pin socket performance. Most of the sockets are tight fit. The power/ground sockets fit noticeably looser. Not sure if this is normal (to accommodate thicker gauge power/ground?), but I have another breadboard that doesn't have this difference. In some cases it's difficult to put a lead straight in.
The jumper wire ends are not reliable. In my initial project assembly, in two instances, when I pulled the jumper from the breadboard, the pin pulled out of the wire and stuck in the breadboard. On the flip side, the tips of the jumper wires are too fine a gauge and fit sloppily in the power and ground sockets in the breadboard but seem to fit snugly enough in the other sockets (maybe this is an issue more with the breadboard). For power and ground, you have to be careful because they can fall out easily. I purchased a separate, additional breadboard that does not have this issue, so this is mostly due to the breadboard included with the kit.
The Mega2560 board is well equipped and overall a solid little platform. The pin sockets are all nicely labeled. However, they are a little quirky in that sometimes when inserting a jumper it feels loose, but it sometimes will be a little more snug. The socket insert seems a little off. I don't know if this is typical of the Arduino and its clones or these particular pin socket header sizes.
In summary, you get a pretty good and fun starter kit for the money. And with all the I/O ports, the Mega 2560 is very versatile. I've been having fun putting some circuits together. For serious projects, though, I would recommend separately purchasing higher quality jumper wires and breadboard. I'm glad I didn't buy the bigger kit, but the pieces in this kit should continue to be fun to play with when I get around to it. I've already purchased higher quality jumper wires and breadboard. I am concerned about the quality of the I/O pin sockets on the board, though, but time will tell.
I will say that the ADC on this device works very well and is fairly accurate. That's unlike the ESP32, which I've also tried. The ADC on that device has known linearity and range issues which require calibration and fussing if you want some accuracy within 0.2v and about 3.0v or so.
The USB cable for power is quite short (about 18 inches). It's fine if you can keep the board close. I've been using a longer USB cable that I bought since I needed the board to be further from the computer.
This is my first Arduino, so overall I am still happy I bought it. I've done a bit of research and Elegoo seems to be one of the better Arduino clones. They provide a bunch of datasheets and some documentation. Double check the data sheets. The one provided for the seven segment display is incorrect. The datasheet provided for the 74HC595 says "Philips" on it, but the component provided is not made by Philips. You can find many datasheets online to supplement your needs.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2018I haven't delved too far into this kit yet, but it the quality and quantity of pieces is really good for the price. Any kid wanting to get started off in robotics/programming/general electronics would be well served by this Mega. It's not as versatile as the Raspberry, but for a learner this one is plenty of board.

I have two of their kits. Everything great except one MEGA 2560 had trouble. They helped. It was the driver that was not communicating with my system. Now everything is fine. Thank you very much. Totally friendly. I feel they want to be a stand-up company, provide good products, and help their customers to a good experience. Buy from them.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2017My second dip into Arduino, and I like the decent board pricing of this clone, as well as the extras included in this kit. The battery leaves something to be desired, though I use 12v solar to run all my simple/hobby electronics so it is not an issue for me. All components of great condition, everything working as expected.
This is a great entry point into Arduino clones. Once going the Elegoo Mega 2560 board is the way to keep adding.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2020Hi! I just got this kit and am excited to get started on it :D....unfortunately I tried putting the CD into my laptop for tutorials but it is too small. What device am I supposed to insert it into? Please respond as soon as possible since this is the last week of my break before I get back to school :O. Thanks for reading!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2020The kit seems like it would be pretty complete for learning how to do Arduino basics, but the Arduino board itself is NOT functional. It has a pretty green power light, but it also has a yellow "L" light, which means it does not have a program called a "bootloader" installed. That apparently means I would have to buy some other gear to have a chance of making any of this "starter" kit work. Not what I had in mind!
