- Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2014Via Amazon this was only about $229 when I bought it. I'm new to Acer monitors so I was completely unsure what to expect and currently the description is less than vague. I had no idea it has integrated speakers. I assumed that was extra glass hanging down in the photos for support. But it's not. It has 2 watt speakers included. The speakers are less than great (they sound significantly worse than the speakers built into my HP Pavilion laptops), but at least they are there if you need them.
The pictures on Amazon led me to believe that this has a solid glass edge-to-edge screen (notice the reflection is uninterrupted across the entire monitor in their photos). I'm not sure how or why they did that, but it does have a plastic bezel around the perimeter. Regardless, it works great with Windows 8.1. What they've done is leave about 0.25" of black glass just inside the plastic bezel so that you can swipe inward easily from any edge or corner as Windows 8 requires.
The 10-point touch and picture quality are stunning as you would expect (actually more than you should expect for this price). I'm using HDMI input (and USB for the touch-feedback) to a Plugable UD-3900 docking station, which in turn is connected by USB 3.0 to whichever laptop I connect to it (we mostly have HP Pavilions).
I do wish that it had a DVI input (it has 2 x HDMI/MHL + a VGA) because the Plugable has DVI and HDMI outputs (meaning I need a DVI to HDMI converter if I want to add a second one of these in my current setup with decent quality). Who is going to use VGA these days? I'm not sure, but it does include a VGA cable and an audio cable (not needed if you use HDMI). HDMI and USB cables are also included.
I'm thinking I will get an MHL cable so my Samsung S4 smartphones can connect easily to see photos we've taken, since it has video extra inputs.
The instruction manual is lamer than lame. It doesn't even mention the buttons on the monitor which control all the settings and adjustments. Play with them and figure it out I guess. that's what I did, but it would be nice to have a description of what the various video modes are intended for. In any case Windows 8.1 recognized this monitor and didn't need to install anything to use it. I did need to power cycle the Plugable unit to get the touch feedback to work the first time. Also I installed the latest (Feb 2014) Displaylink drivers that Plugable recommends, before adding this monitor.
I'm also using a Logitech 520 wireless keyboard and mouse, Samsung DVD USB drive, Logitech speakers, and various other accessories via my Plugable dock with this monitor, and all work great.
I'm not a huge fan of the slightly reclined (maximum upright angle) this monitor allows, but at least it has the VESA holes on the back in case you want to screw it onto another monitor mount (I might get a dual monitor mount if I buy another one of these). It's about 10 degrees shy of vertical in it's most upright position (which is similar to other Windows 8 monitors). It's designed that way for easy touch screen use I suppose. You can recline it all the way to flat on your desk or lap if you want to (to play games I suppose).
It is pretty glossy (and reflective), but less so than an HP 22" monitor that I also have.
I have no hesitation buying another one (or more) of these if I want more screens. Amazon is making that an easy decision at the moment since they are out of stock (mid-March 2014).
This really is a phenomenal bargain considering the current alternatives for Windows 8 are at least 50 bones more currently.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 29, 2014This unit was purchased to evaluate if it could be deployed as a kiosk type solution using a Linux OS. Through our testing we found the monitor's touch screen technology did not work at all but the colors and resolution were great. The description on Amazon did not indicate the inability to work with Linux at the time of purchase and thus the rating. The look of the unit is very nice and I was disappointed that the unit was a failure.
If you are looking to purchase this monitor to use with something other than a Linux OS, please feel free to disregard this review.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2015I bought this refurbished from Acer themselves. When it arrived, the bezel around the screen had popped out, I had to snap it back together, but after I hooked it up it works fine. I do hope this don't effect the longevity of this monitor.
So far it's working perfectly, touchscreen works and even with the bezel I have no issue with windows 8.1 touch features.
BUILD QUALITY:
Since I bought this refurbished I won't go too deep into it, but the overall feel is good , it's just as good as any other monitor.
BUILT IN SPEAKERS:
They do their job. System sound sounds good, and they are great at night when you don't want to disturb anyone. The problem is they are not loud. They are on par with an iPad in regards to the sound quality and loudness.
PICTURE QUALITY:
The picture quality on this monitor is average at best and it's why I gave this monitor 3 stars. My old non-touch 1600x900 Samsung monitor was better. The colors looks washed out, to compensate for this Acer has the default brightness at 97 out of 100. You will have eye fatigue if you don't turn down the brightness, but when you do, the display will become dull, so don't expect Retnia display quality with this "1080p" monitor.
CONCLUSION:
I paid $129 for this and it's worth the money at this price, but if I had paid MSRP for this monitor I would had returned it.
This is a basic entry level touchscreen monitor, so don't expect anything more than entry level picture and sound.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2014This screen is running full 1080 for me on my desktop with touch screen (win 7), simple plug and play. My only grip with it is stylus don't really work well with it, it tends to skip. Im hoping I can get a screen cover for it, that will help with that problem cause the stylus im using works well with my venue 11 pro and it has a screen cover to prevent scratches.
All in all I think this thing works well. Sound tho not great does work, which I use as my primary speakers. I don't need surround sound, just needs to be loud enough to hear.
Ironically using a finger works very well with this monitor, but for my purposes don't help much less I want to color in a picture without detail. like background blending and stuff. If a screen cover don't work to make it more stylus workable you can atlest use it for opening apps and other simple stuff and win 8 if it works with win 8.
For me if I cant get it more stylus workable i'll have to find either a decent cintiq, or similar monitor for drawling and stuff.
BTW I highly recommend sketchbook for drawling on windows/mac, the new version is sketchbook pro 7. I Just ordered it myself but they made a lot of good upgrades to it, like layer blend options, and perspective tools. Im looking forward to using sketchbook pro 7 with this monitor if I can get the stylus to work.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2014I thought this was a great monitor when I got it and connected it to my Windows 8.1 computer with multiple monitors. Touch screen worked fine. Then I had to disconnect it to move peripherals around. Hooked it back up and touch screen doesn't work. I go into Pen and Touch settings to try to calibrate and it won't let me choose this monitor as the touch screen. I'm pretty disappointed in it as I bought it specifically for the touch capabilities.
