it DOES support sound as well. Which means if you have it plugged into a supported device (e.g. a modern graphics card which also has a built-in sound card like a Radeon 7950 etc), it will transmit video AND audio to the display it is plugged in e.g. a HDTV or monitor with speakers.,This is just like it would transmit sound and video on a hdmi to hdmi plain cable. I could be wrong but not every dvi to hdmi cable supports audio as well. but this one DOES.

OK, so just trying to help some folks who might be having the same problem as I did.
I connected a 32inch 1080p HDTV as a computer monitor via HDMI to my PC. The colors and brightness looked weird and washed off especially on desktop and while playing games etc. Movies seemed to be unaffected, in my opinion. To fix this you either Plug in a good old DVI cable from the PC to TV (if your TV supports it) , or buy this cable (DVI to HDMI, DVI end in PC and HDMI to the TV)- however, some people (like myself) will still have the problem despite his cable. To circumvent this, use a small software program "CRU" (Custom resolution utility", which is free ...install it, and run CRU.exe from the folder. It is pretty simple, just select the desired refresh rate, resolution etc of the HDTV (highest supported e.g. 1920 x 1080 @ 60hz)...after that what worked for me is that if you have an AMD/ ATI Radeon card use "no extension block" , hit OK to save it. Your are NOT done yet. Now run "restart.exe." or "restart64.exe" (depending on your windows version 32 vs 64bit). these files will also be in the same folder as CRU installation. Running them will restart the video drivers and force the PC to think it is connected to a PC MONITOR in DVI mode rather than a HDTV, since the color profiles (RGB/ YCbCr444 etc) are changed based on the detected display; causing the color/ brightness anomaly. You have to do this just once and not every time you restart your PC. However I have noticed at times waking up from sleep mode, I have run it again, as the PC again goes to the weired color/ hdmi mode.
ALERT- just remember if you do use CRU to fix the colors/ brightness you are basically tricking the drivers to think it is a pure DVI connection to PC/ TV and you will loose the ability to stream audio on this cable. Since I use headphones, I didn't miss it, but if needed just reset the CRU (run reset-all.exe) and restart the pc to get audio back for movies, directly from the hdtv speakers.
