I am using these jacks mainly for prototyping. They have worked well so far.
They work in solderless breadboards as well.
Pin Out - The pin in the front center is common/ground. The outer pins in the back are left/right. The inner pins in the back are not connected to anything. A 1/8" stereo plug has 3 sections. The tip is left, the mid section is right, the
final section is ground.
Physical Dimensions - 11mm wide. 11mm long (front to back shortest dimension of rectangle), 14.1mm long max length front to back (including circular part). Circular jack is 6mm in diameter.
Usage - I have used these for stereo input (from iPhone) and stereo output (to earbuds).
