- Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2014I replaced both the front and rear dome lamps in a 1998 Suburban with these, and WOW! What a difference. These are VERY bright, and were VERY easy to install. It took less than 1 minute for each lamp, from start to finish. I would describe the color as "daylight" (blueish tint, guessing around 6,000K color temperature), as compared with the yellowish original lights (guessing around 2,000K color temperature). It is MUCH easier to see inside. I have upgraded all of the original interior incandescent lights with LEDs and the difference is almost literally "night and day". With the original bulbs, it was very difficult to find anything that was dropped on the seat or on the floor of the rig. With these, it is almost like being parked outside on an slightly overcast day in that it is plenty bright enough to see everything, with the more bluish tint, like you would generally see with 8-foot fluorescent tubes in a garage.
I have a lumen sensor and I compared the before and after numbers. I do not have the paper with me, with the exact numbers, but the original bulbs were only around 200 lumens, measured at 6" from the light. The new ones were close to 2,000 lumens, at the same 6". Roughly 10X the amount of light, and the higher color temperature makes for higher contrast, also.
The large LED panel fit nicely inside the rectangular dome light casing in the Suburban. I just let the panel rest on the inside of the plastic lens/cover, rather than use the double-stick foam tape which is on the back of the lights. Being LEDs, they do not create enough heat to be a problem, and resting the lights on the plastic cover gives nice, wide dispersion. Even after having them on for about 30 minutes, I could put my hand on the plastic lens and it was somewhat warm, but no where near enough to melt, and, even though the LED panel was resting directly on the lens, it was not as warm as it was with the old, original festoon tube. If you don't know, a festoon is a bulb looks like a tiny fluorescent tube light, or like the clear glass fuses with metal caps at each end.
We have a mountain cabin, in the forest, where there is no electricity. When it's dark, it's DARK. We had always needed to get a flashlight to see anything in the car. With these, a flashlight's batteries can be saved for outdoor use.
I especially like the fact that each LED panel came with connectors for three different bulb formats. Since LEDs have to be mounted with the correct polarity (i.e. red positive to red positive, and black negative to black negative), you can easily see which way to install the connector. If you do not know which contact is which, in the car's bulb socket, you can just try it one way, then, if it doesn't work, you just unplug the wiring harness and plug it back in the other way. Some of the sockets are in are in hard-to-access locations, so it is very convenient to be able to switch the plugs at the connectors, instead of climbing back into the car, upside-down, trying to get my head under the dashboard, craning my neck, and squinting to try to see the socket that is now about 3" in front of my face.
All in all, these are wonderful. I wish these had been available, years ago!
UPDATE:
I traded in the '98 Suburban for an '07 Suburban, which had the original overhead bulbs. I had been spoiled, so I bought several more of these to replace all of the overhead bulbs in the '07. Just to make sure people know know, these are too large to fit in the smaller space, in the front. That is, the ones between the driver and passenger's heads and almost above the dashboard. They easily replaced the remaining 5 lights, including the 2 just behind the driver's head, the 2 between the 2nd and 3rd row seats, and the one over the cargo area.
I have attached a photo of the '07 Suburban. The bright ones, on the left, are these new replacement LEDs. The ones on the right are still the original "OEM" bulbs. Even this picture does not fully illustrate the remarkable difference.
I just need to get another set of these, but not quite as big, to replace the front ones. Meanwhile, these new LEDs, which are located behind my head, provide more light on the dash area, than than the OEM bulb right above the dash! I'll never go back to OEM bulbs!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 12, 2015Should have bought these sooner! I've kicked around buying some LED dome lights for my '07 FJ Cruiser and finally bought these to replace my OEM bulbs. Light output is easily 5X brighter than the old filament bulbs I had before.
This product is Plug-N-Play fast! Would recommend to anyone looking for bright interior lighting with a perfect 6000k white feel.
My Modification:
Plug-N-Play... yes. But I had room for two panels in each of my dome light fixtures. Unknowing of the quality of this product I bought qty 2 (just is case [qty 2 gave me 4 LED panels in total. qty 1 would get you a pair of panels. I'm not trying to mislead here]). In the pictures below I used some of the spare connectors to splice two pigtails to the base that my dome light provides and thus was able to plug two panels into the single socket in my vehicle. I got double the light out of it, but if your vehicle has two bulb sockets in the dome light don't bother with this, just use the pigtails and install will take a whopping 20 seconds.
Pics:
Product out of the box with quarter to scale. (provided are common connectors for a wide range of dome light sockets)
My modified double pigtail socket. (this product does NOT require assembly this is only an extra step I took myself)
Two panels adhered to the dome light housing with 3M adhesive tape supplied on each panel's back.
Before dome light with single OEM filament bulb looking in.
Before dome light with single OEM filament bulb sideways.
After dome light with two led panels looking in.
After dome light with two led panels sideways.
Front cabin and Cargo area dome lights replaced with 2 LED panels each. (Very impressed!)
Conclusion:
I was extremely skeptical at the claim "720 lumens" and while I have no way of measuring the lumen count I have to say it's pretty freak'n bright! Way brighter than I was expecting. I'd say close to a 70 watt light bulb you'd use in a desk lamp. Very pleased and would recommend.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2014These are closer to the white color range then the blue. I've tried a different "standard" festoon LED replacement bulb but couldn't get the right brightness. If it leaned more toward the white instead of the blue color range it may have been fine.
I had planned on zip tying one of these to the Festoon type expansion base in my dome light but for now they just lie on the lens. They are really bright that way and my '98 F150 isn't a 4x4 so I don't have to worry about it bouncing around. So far what bumps I have hit I never heard anything from it. It doesn't get anywhere near the heat the old incandescent bulbs did but after 15 to 20 minutes of the LEDs being on, the lens did get luke warm with the panel lying on the lens so I still do plan on mounting them off the lens eventually.
By the way, these aren't a perfect fit in a '98 F150'a dome light, they will just barely hit the edges of the housing if you push them near the light connectors. Close, but if you want it up all the way a little trimming will be in order. It will be up off the lens so no one will know and they'll still be working after i'm gone anyway so I won't have to get back in there, at least in theory.
They do come with 3 different "standard" type bulb bases so you can experiment with different light housings.
Now to figure out how to get my map lights brighter.
Hopefully the supplier doesn't change the bulbs on the shipper so they do stay the same color.

5.0 out of 5 stars MY EYES!
Well here is one product that really impresses for the price.
Not too long ago I bought a few LED bulbs for my car from another source - ones that were specifically made for the sockets. I wasn't really impressed by the light output of them. Then I stumbled across these little guys...wow.
If you need light - a LOT of light in your car, this is the ticket! Nice clean pure-white light, totally flooding the car, no sharp focal points at all. The panel stays relatively cool to the touch (you can hold onto the panel even if it has been running solid for ten minutes, try that with an incandescent)
My uses were to replace the dome light, and the trunk light. Both were awesome, but the one in the trunk really changed the game - the double sided tape grabs very well, and the dummy bulb adapters work flawlessly.
As noted in other reviews - these boards are set up in parallel circuit, so you can snap them in half and solder on wiring to make four 24-led panels (or if the 48-led panel is too big for your desired mounting area)
Typically reviews are not totally reliable due to things like confirmation bias etc, so I went out of my way and used my photography light meter to test the actual light output in my car using various methods of lighting. The stock halogen dome light was able to put out roughly 47 lux of light at 3 feet away, directly under the dome light area with the cover on, the 48-LED panel gave off a whopping 156 lux - more than three times as much. To give an idea of how bright that is - I have two 100w security lights on a motion sensor on the side of my house, at a distance of 8 feet away within the beam path, I was able to measure 135 lux - so the relative brightness is very close.
I cannot comment on the longevity of them, but for under $9 each I'm not to worried either way.
One of the best low priced purchases I think I've ever made online, you won't go wrong with these.
PS. Perhaps look at getting a smaller RED LED bulb for the drivers side map light - since red won't ruin your night vision but it will still provide decent light to look at a map, or buttons on a GPS etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grat Product!
Product shipped as advertised. Good overall quality, and very pleased at light output. Very bright and nice white color with no blue tones as many LED lights have. Would buy these again and recommend them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Super bright, excellent value!
Works well, super bright! If your're the DIY type, you can actually cut the PCB apart and get two 24 LED lamps, just solder to the pads on the back.

1.0 out of 5 stars not great
when i first installed them i thought that this was the best light ever, then within 15 min they started to stink ,smoke and then burn out,all of them. The light would be great if you only wanted to have it on for 2 or 3 min but if you need light for a longer time this is not it.
PS
the adhesive tap on the back says 3M but it cant be as it released its self before i even turned the light on

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice and bright
Works so well in the camper trailer that I bought more for the SUV.
