    I have a DC04 and was a little wary when buying this as there are a few negative reviews from people saying it doesn't fit their Dyson, and when I opened the package I initially thought I had the same problem but then realised I was wrong. I had mistakenly assumed this replaced the sponge filter on top of the dust collector when in fact it is designed to be mounted in the main body of the machine immediately below the dust collector.

    When I figured this out it was incredibly easy to fit, just lever off the filter cover with a flat head screwdriver, replace the old filter with this one, pop the cover back on, job done.

    I bought this 'pattern' filter to replace the original hepa filter in my Dyson cleaner that had become clogged with fine dust over many years. It was much cheaper than a genuine part but appeared identical and fitted well. Suction performance of the cleaner was restored and the air flowing out of it seems clean but I have no way of knowing if it's as clean as it would have been with a genuine filter! It appears to work well to me so I have given it 5*s.

    It fits perfectly but putting back the Dyson cover is not as easy as all that. The cover has to be aligned so that the two little half circles are opposite each other at the front. Then the tabs are also aligned (which you would use to open the compartment again). The cover must nowbe pressed down all round - I got a click. If not the barrel holding dust is very hard to remove because the cover is slightly raised.

    There is nothing wrong with the quality of the item but it does not fit the DC04. Maybe I've been sent the wrong one as the packaging says it is for the DC05 and the DC08, which is an Amazon fail. It is about he alf an inch too big for the DC04.

    I was hesitant about buying a filter which was not a genuine Dyson spare part, but this product appears to an identical replacement.

    It fits perfectly and the filter element looks to be made of the same material as on the Dyson part.

    There was an immediate big improvement in suction when I changed the filter.

    After a month's use, discolouration of the underside of the filter shows that it it is doing its job.
