The Cosmic Signal Beacon was born from a passion for both futuristic technology and the mysteries of the cosmos. I envisioned a machine that listens to the universe’s radio frequency noise and transforms it into dynamic, visual art. With the nRF9151 DK at its heart, the Beacon scans and interprets ambient RF signals, then broadcasts striking patterns that seem to echo cosmic communications.
Inspired by classic science-fiction and modern tech innovation, I wanted to create a device that was as much a conversation piece as it was a functional machine. The idea was simple: combine real-time RF signal processing with an interactive LED display in a sleek, custom enclosure. This machine isn’t just about technology - it’s about evoking a sense of wonder and curiosity about the universe.
Taking it a step further, I want to use LTE communication to enable remote monitoring and control. With LTE connectivity, the Beacon streams real-time RF data and diagnostics to a cloud server, allowing users to access its performance from anywhere, trigger events remotely, and even troubleshoot issues on the fly like printing messages on an OLED display. This extra feature not only makes it an engaging educational tool but also a practical solution for interactive public installations and remote diagnostics.
Additionally, the OLED display would not only visualize RF signals but also show the closest GNSS satellites. This extra feature provides real-time situational awareness by tracking nearby satellite positions.
I started by sketching ideas and mapping out how to integrate the nRF9151 DK with visual output. The goal was to have the Beacon “listen” to RF signals and then convert them into engaging light patterns.
Using Autodesk Fusion, I design a futuristic enclosure that not only protects the electronics but also enhances the overall aesthetic. The design incorporates modular panels and custom mounting points, ensuring that each component - from the RF module to the LED display - is perfectly housed.
I plan to leverage PCBWay’s CNC machining and 3D printing services to fabricate the enclosure. Their precision work ensured that all parts fit seamlessly, creating a cohesive and professional look for the final product. With the enclosure ready, I will integrate the nRF9151 DK, display module and additional sensors.
