Resistor 220 ohm
Resistor 220 ohm
This controls the brightness of the led and the discharge profile (higher resistance is dimmer, and shows more variation in brightness, rather than a sharp on/off). Too low a resistance can cause the system to enter a non-ideal range where this resistance can affect the frequency of the circuit.

Resistor 10k ohm
Resistor 10k ohm
This controls how fast the capacitors charge, and therefore is one part of the frequency control system

Capacitor 220 µF
Capacitor 220 µF
These charge and discharge each cycle, and in concert with the 10K resistor, control the frequency of the system.

Badge pin
I found the ones that worked the best were purchased from a local craft store. Most sew on or glue on pins should work.

Soldering iron (generic)
Soldering iron (generic)
flush cutter
This can be a pair of nail clippers, or a nice flush cutter
Solder sucker
Necessary if you are working with kids, who will inevitably fill one ore more of the holes with solder by accident, or place a part in backwards.
