I like extreme macro photography, and I wanted to get an automated macro rail. The existing options were expensive and didn't allow much customization. One day I saw an ad on Ali Express for a cheap motorized slider, so I decided to try to build my own macro rail.
To get it to work only took a few hours (building a basic web interface for an ESP32). But then I wanted to be able to control the cameras from the ESP32, so that it can move the slider a bit then take a photo. This was a bit more complicated, but eventually I managed to control Canon, Panasonic, Olympus and Sony cameras all by Wi-Fi.
