Although there are IV stands on wheels that are used in hospitals that patients can take with them as they walk around, there aren't any used for those who cannot hold the IV stand.
If a patient can walk or can move in a wheelchair, but can't use his/her hands to take the IV stand with them, then that patient will be confined to one location unless someone else follows them around everywhere.
The solution is to create an autonomous IV stand that uses a camera and body recognition to determine where the patient is and then maintain a certain distance between the patient and itself. If the patient stops, the IV stand will stop. If the patient turns or moves, the stand will turn or move the same amount so that the body in the camera's view is always in the same position.
The UDOO board will be housed in a base at the bottom of the stand and the camera will reside at eye level and attached to the stand. Body recognition has established algorithms in OpenCV, so the UDOO board would process the video coming in and then control motorized wheels to turn or move the stand.
This project would provide mobility to many patients who cannot move themselves and an IV stand at the same time.
