Smart home assistants such as Alexa can help the elderly to live independently, by providing voice control over heating and lighting for example. However these assistants can be confusing to use as they lack context e.g. where am I standing, what object am I looking at. Also there are privacy concerns, and not everyone wants an assistant that is always listening or even watching! Handybot addresses these challenges by mounting the assistant and associated microphones and cameras on a rover that can be summoned to follow, and recognises the location of its owner and the objects around them. If there are guests over and Handybot isn't required, it can be commanded to go to a storage location out of sight.
