Friday Sept 6th
In the first two days Addie and I have changed our original idea of our project. We originally thought we would make a glass of water with ice (cold) and a twisty straw (boing) in it. Then we would put droplets of "water" around the cup to make it look like that water splattered, as if someone slammed a cup of water on a table.
Our first day we made a cup. We made our cup by cutting a rectangle out of cardboard and then simply rolling it into a cylinder shape and hot gluing it together. Then we were thinking about how we were going to incorporate the characteristic prickly. I had the idea to make the cup of water a tropical drink and to add a sliced piece of pineapple to the edge of the cup. The spiky edge of a pineapple would represent our prickly. As I was making the pineapple, Addie was was making two cubes of ice out of cardboard.
On the second day, Addie and I rethought our idea of making a twisty straw to act as our "boing". We glanced around the room and realized our friends were using more of their imagination for this project. We decided to try and make our project a little more funky. Addie started making spirals out of cardboard to glue on the sides of our cup as I went outside to paint the base of our project white and the cup red. And then we painted the spirals yellow to make them pop.
The next time we are together we are going to finish painting our project and then use blue bubble paint (if Mr. Bell has any) to make our water droplets on the surface pop. The water drops will represent the "splat" characteristic.
Monday Sept 9
Today Addie and I finished our project. We painted the the interior of our cup and the ice cubes blue to represent a cold drink. We painted our pineapple yellow and green. We also splattered blue paint on the side of our cup to make it look like the cup has condensation and we made puddles of blue paint on our base so it looks like the cup spilled or splattered water when we put it down.
Addie and I also decided to glue our yellow springs around the cup to represent the popping taste of our drink. We decided our drink would be an ice cold Pina Colada.
