WIZnet released a new network io module product last month. The io module defined by WIZnet refers to a module that does not include an MCU and is created only with a Hardwired TCP/IP chip. Therefore, developers using the module can easily implement Hardwired TCP/IP using any MCU they want.
The new network io modules released this time are W5100-io, W5100S-io is equipped with W5100S, W5500-io is equipped with W5500, and W6100-io is equipped with W6100.
The new network io module contains circuitry to work with each chip, allowing users to use without separate and difficult circuit designs. And it can be connected by MCU and SPI, and it is very small size because it does not contain RJ45. Ethernet PHY circuitry is designed so you can use Ethernet with a simple wire connection to RJ45.
The new network io module can be used in SMD type by default, and can also be used as DIP type if desired by the user. All three modules have the same form factor and the same pinmap.
Below is a simple comparison table of these three modules.
So let's take a look at each module.
W5100S-ioW5100S-io is a compact size network io module that includes W5100S. It basically contains the circuitry for using the W5100S and also has the PHY circuitry so users can connect to an RJ45 (transformer included) and Ethernet is ready to go. The W5100S-io is an ideal option for users who want to develop Ethernet systems quickly. W5100S-io is hardware compatible with W5500-io and W6100-io.
Feature
- Plugin Network Module.
- Hardware compatible with W5500-io, W6100-io.
- Usable without H/W design for W5100S.
- Fast evaluation for W5100S & MCU in the target board.
- Support high speed SPI interface.
- Supports TCP/IP protocols such as TCP, UDP, IPv4, ICMP, IGMP, ARP and PPPoE
- Very small form factor : 20mm x 24mm x 2.6mm

W5500-ioW5500-io is a compact size network io module including W5500. Basically, the circuit for using the W5500 is included and the PHY circuit is also included, so users can use Ethernet immediately by connecting to RJ45 (with transformer). The W5500-io is an ideal option for users who want to quickly develop an Ethernet system. W5500-io is hardware compatible with W5100S-io and W6100-iature
