This was designed as a tool to help me develop, and eventually inspect/diagnose/debug badge addons. I made it before the "official" SAO Developer's Edition RPi hat was released. Even still, I feel my platform is more portable and easier to use. It doesn't require all the weight of getting a Pi online, networked, hooked up to a display, whatever. John provides a full Micropython installation with access to the REPL via simple serial interface. It's an ESP8266, so I guess one could enable the WiFi REPL if they want. John is connected to all four pins used by the new SAO spec.
